What amounts to a single-link music video post with marginal padding? I was so prepared to flag the living shit out of this. Until I watched it. That is one awesome, fucked-up, awesomely fucked up music video. posted by dersins at 10:45 PM on November 5, 2008 [1 favorite has favorites]
thanks for the quicktime. mtv's america-only policy sucks donkey balls. posted by krautland at 10:55 PM on November 5, 2008
Yeah, MTV does suck donkey balls alright. posted by paisley henosis at 11:08 PM on November 5, 2008
Ar mar gard, was that GOOD. Good-good. posted by heyho at 11:32 PM on November 5, 2008
Hmm... a kind of kindred spirit to the literal minded Ah-Ha video from the other day only with.... don't say heart don't say heart don't say heart. urgh! I caught this video on rage a few weeks ago and was completely blown away by it. Multiple jaw dropping moments as it takes such unexpected turns, from the plunge to very abrupt ending. Of course, the serious great voice doesn't do the song any harm. :)
FWIW I had now issue watching the MTV link from Australia. posted by adamt at 11:36 PM on November 5, 2008
That was truly weird and great. Made a perfect Gnarls Barkley video. (And, worked fine from Germany). posted by From Bklyn at 3:56 AM on November 6, 2008
If I remember correctly, this song was used to awesome effect in the season finale of Breaking Bad. posted by mannequito at 3:57 AM on November 6, 2008
Good movie, nice song but, for me, not so well-matched. posted by Jode at 4:38 AM on November 6, 2008
damn I can't seem to watch any of these due to various location issues and work filters. posted by mary8nne at 4:53 AM on November 6, 2008
A human heart is fist-sized, about five inches long. posted by StickyCarpet at 4:59 AM on November 6, 2008
Yeah, that heart is totally not anatomically correct. And it's not like the guy could just keep talking without a heart, and like hearts have mouths and teeth and can sing and stuff. I mean, c'mon. posted by MrMoonPie at 5:49 AM on November 6, 2008 [5 favorites has favorites]
From one of the best albums of the year. Thanks. posted by Rykey at 6:04 AM on November 6, 2008
The sneakers the heart wore cracked me up. posted by Dragonness at 6:41 AM on November 6, 2008
The heart needs eyes so it would know it was singing into a piece of broccoli, and not a microphone. Otherwise, just like real life!
Are you even listening to me? posted by owtytrof at 7:26 AM on November 6, 2008
I am not a supporter of single-link-MTV-tube posts.
That said, OMG AWESOME. So, thanks. But don't do it again. posted by zpousman at 7:34 AM on November 6, 2008
Meh.
It's pretty trite, IMO. Any shock value or whimsy (which go together like nuts and gum) is diminished by all the crappy formulaic Zack Braff-style dialogue--not to mention the crappy formulaic music.
Sys Rq, I must ask, what other music follows the same formula as Gnarls Barkley? Because I definitely want to listen to it. posted by Citizen Premier at 8:45 AM on November 6, 2008 [2 favorites has favorites]
Why did I think that heart was going to try to sell me California Raisins? posted by kuujjuarapik at 9:03 AM on November 6, 2008
Why did I think that heart was going to try to sell me California Raisins?
Because you can't tell the difference between stop-motion animation and CG animation? posted by dersins at 10:22 AM on November 6, 2008
Sorry. That was totally unnecessary on my part, and, frankly kinda dickish. Work sucks this week and for some unknown reason I just took it out on you instead of punching my clients in the dick. My apologies. posted by dersins at 12:36 PM on November 6, 2008 [2 favorites has favorites]
No worries. I really can't tell the difference between CG and stop-motion anymore. posted by kuujjuarapik at 1:43 PM on November 6, 2008
I usually don't like music videos with dialogue, but this one works. posted by nedkingsley at 1:57 PM on November 6, 2008
Can't play outside the U.S. Just like Obama.
For those having problems watching videos outside the U.S., like this Mtv site or Hulu, try using Hotspot Shield. It's a little annoying - it commandeers your browser with an ad at the top - but gets the job done. posted by zardoz at 4:13 PM on November 6, 2008
As far as Gnarls Barkley's music: compared to Cee-Lo's solo stuff, it DOES sound formulaic, and a bit...well...soulless. Check out Cee-Lo's album Green is the Soul Machine. If you like Gnarls Barkley and haven't heard it, it will blow you away.
That said, I saw Gnarls Barkley at The Roots Picnic in Philly this year. I probably would have been okay with them if they hadn't gone on after the best set I've ever seen from The Roots. Obama isn't the only one bringing the people together, y'all. And ?uestlove took the Gnarls Barkley drummer to school. Even with his extra 50 pounds and sweat emanating from his afro. posted by nosila at 4:57 PM on November 6, 2008
