Barely even a week as President-Elect and already Right Wing European politicians are talking shit. Gun sales are up and according to the Right, Obama’s responsible for the current economic woes. Can Barack Obama live up to the expectations? Previously.

Come on, Berlusconi's "suntanned" comment is funny. Admit it. I have a hard time believing he meant anything negative by it.

However, the rest of the comments that are floating around...very revealing. Interesting. Pathetic.

You know who else was a far-right German politician who didn't like Jews or black people and wanted to promote white identity and pure national cultures?

Mr Gansel, whose party sympathises with neo-Nazi groups [...]

So that's all right, then.

Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity dive shamelessly in, talking about the 'Obama recession' and other partisan lines lies.
FTFY, LA Times.

Can we just wait for Obama to actually become the damn President? Last I checked, it wasn't January 20, 2009 yet.

43% of the white voters this election voted for Obama. Yes, Obama was elected as President of America, without the majority of the dominant subculture/race/whatever you want to call it.

There are a lot of white people who are going to lose their shit over this fact. America has been defined, since it's beginning, by white culture (whatever that means), due to the sheer numbers. That is slowly ebbing away and many things that are "right and normal" about the country will change. People hate change, HATE IT, and will fight against this in all sorts of ways.

On the plus side, 54% of white voters between 18-29 voted for Obama, so the kids are alright.

For the real racism to begin?

And that's the point - why do some believe they've elected the Second Coming, whilst others think he's the Devil incarnate...

Thanks, I keep forgetting how crazy some European government folks are - it makes all those generalizations about Obama being more "European" than "American" (in other words, elitist, not concerned with the common working folk) sound fantastically ridiculous. The problem is, this doesn't really get any major press in the US, so those who need to hear how varied European views and comments are don't know.

Here's one McCain voter that hopes Obama does live up to expectations, since we're going to be in even deeper shit than we are now if he does not live up to expectations.

Can a black man take office BEFORE taking the blame? (well, we've answered that question)

Of course, racism and reason never have done well co-existing.

It's unfortunate, and probably viciously ironic, but it might be a good thing for gun sales to go up so dramatically.

The ensuing rise in deaths will underline the tragic, epidemiological consequences of gun ownership, and the survivors will take on grassroots efforts to effect a significant reduction in gun ownership, just as there was a grassroots effort to get Obama in office.

Much as Republicans hoisted themselves by their own petard by running Palin for VP, the gun hoarding white supremacist element are doing the same thing for lawful gun owners, in linking the Second Amendment with violent bigots. NRA members, if you're reading, beware of the crazies you've set to run loose in your own house -- they'll be the ones who get your rights taken from you, not Obama or whichever black strawman you'd prefer to blame.

Brandon,

Obama got more of the white vote than any recently elected Democrat...

Anyway, it takes some balls to call this "the Obama recession". I guess it's all a game to Rush Limbaugh...

Err, sorry gman. This post is heavily editorialized, linking a slew of different, loosely related topics. Argh. Stop that.

See, I wouldn't say it's "heavily" editorialized and THE topic is the Right Wing's opinion of the President-Elect.

In 2002, Clinton reached in from the past to start the first Bush recession. Now, Obama is reaching in from the future to cause the second one. If only Democrats could use their time traveling abilities for good instead of evil.

See, I wouldn't say it's "heavily" editorialized and THE topic is the Right Wing's opinion of the President-Elect.

First off, stop capitalizing right wing. Second - did you ask the right wing, or did you, you know, string some words together to represent your opinion and interpretation of this easily identifiable right wing through your own viewpoint?

Third, why does that make a good MetaFilter post? This stuff is all over the newsweb, and this post is basically an editorial.

I agree that racism is a problem, but is this sort of post really the battleground you wish to choose?
