Possibly the scariest thing you will see all week: Martin Schoeller's intensely detailed portraits of female bodybuilders...

I wish to return these goggles - they appear not to function in some fashion.

No one would look good in that lighting.

How reassuring. Because I was thinking that watching the economy collapse out from under us was going to be the scariest thing I saw. A bunch of women who chose to make themselves stronger is MUCH scarier than total global financial collapse.

Well done sir. *tips hat in condescension*

I don't know, more power to them is what I say. these women are certainly doing their thing, and one thing you can't accuse them is to conform themselves to the seize-0 fashion standard of anorexic female beauty. steroids suck, but they suck if you're a man, too. it's obviously lame that the almost complete absence of body fat due to their regimen makes their breasts disappear forcing most of them to have surgery to remedy that. but again, more power to these women, there's a beauty in that, even under Schoeller's ungodly lights, bouncing off every surface, and after his trademark 1,000 Photoshop layers that would make even a baby look like an alien.

That's fucking grotesque. WHY?

The photog is certainly a pretty odd duck given the great lengths he went to to light, frame and develop the shots for maximum freakshow value, and the subjects are probably on the strange side even when they aren't being wrapped up by a helpful portraitist as dead-eyed shockers, but "[hyperbolic case of] scary!" in reference to this particular kind of gender no-no sounded kind of sad even back in grade school.

"Whatever makes you happy" has always been my rule of thumb.
Doesn't mean I can't think you look weird doing it.

JimmyJames: Maybe find a thread about the economy if you want to talk about it so much.

Why must these women's accomplishments in their field be judged by their looks? This is not an issue of their attractiveness, it's an issue of their effort put forth in their chosen field which happens to be bodybuilding. Lets not be jackasses here and lets give them the credit they deserve. That took alot of hard work in the gym. And before anyone yells out "steroids!" please keep in mind that drugs or no drugs, one still has to work hard and be dedicated to reach that level.

At least if you had a heart attack while you were up there they could throw you off easily.
