Growing up, I hated Hee Haw even though my grandfather insisted on watching it every time we visited. But I always LOVED this part and I'll now be singing this until I fall asleep. It's also really fun to go Pfft in my cat's face. Not to bring the hilarity down but it really makes me miss my grandpa -- who was totally Johnny Cash.

Although I would have hated them at the time, now I'm really pissed that we never got Hee-Haw, Grand Ol' Opry, Louisiana Hayride or any of that other shitkicking stuff. I mean we gave you Benny Hill and Are You Being Served? What more could we have done?

Man, been years since I thought about Archie Campbell. In 1970's Pigeon Forge Tennessee, there was a major attraction named (you can't make this up) 'Archie Campbell's Hee Haw Village'. I too hated Saturday nights due to not only Hee Haw, but the Lawrence Welk Show as well.

Thanks for a fun post that brought back some great memories... My Dad watched Hee-Haw every Saturday night and I hated it as a child and thought I'd tuned it out. Flash forward some 15 years and I'm on a date with the future Mr. Adams. Somehow over dinner the topic of Hee-Haw came up, and I immediately went into a diatribe of how much I loathed that show...the "Pfft you were gone," the "Gloom, despair and agony on me," the "Hey, Grandpa, what's for supper?", the picking' and grinnin', Junior Samples, Kingfish the Wonderdog.... and then Mr. Adams looked at me soberly and said in his distinctive Georgia drawl: "For someone who hates that show so much, you sure do seem to know a lot about it...." Oy! It was some sort of epiphany to me that I'd actually absorbed that much Hee-Haw-ness.

I don't care who you are. The corn-pone, self-deprecating humor of Hee-Haw was something to see. The Rindercella story at the end of 445supermag's link above is something to see.

There is an old Hee-Haw joke (I'm pretty sure) that ended, "Pardon me, Roy, is that the cat that chewed your new shoes?" I probably haven't seen Hee-Haw in 30 years but that still lives in my brain and makes me laugh.

I should also point out that Hee Haw really demonstrated a special and unique bond between the US South... and Canada. Creators Peppiatt and Aylesworth were Canadian, as well as cast members Gordie Tapp and Don Harron (who played KORN newsman Charlie Fahrquarson -- a character he played on the very first night of Canadian television in 1952!)
