Lives In Pictures

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has started videotaping its events and making them available online. Highlights include in-depth video interviews with Guillermo Del Toro, Mike Leigh, Anthony Minghella, and the Coen brothers, as well as a lecture by Will Wright. If that's not enough, BAFTA's online archives include treasures like this 1962 Academy publication on the making of Lawrence of Arabia.

James Lipton could watch almost anything about interviewing and come away the better for it. Last time I checked, his technique consisted of fawning annoyingly over his guest and then asking vapid questions, interrupting whenever the guest threatened to say something interesting.

I always thought his schtick was to flatter and placate the actors so that they would come in and speak to his students. Though, when he goes on about pimping his wife it gets a bit... awkward... but definitely entertaining!

Loving the Coen brothers interview right now, mmmmmmmm.
