I know a mammal paleontolgist who'd probably be grumbling about this comment. ;) I know plenty of invertebrate paleontologists who would still be grumbling that people only ever think of vertebrate paleontology. Believe it or not, most of the fossil record is of marine animals with no backbone. Then there are the micropaleontologists and paleobotanists who we can all forget about. Anyway, yes, "dinosaur paleontologist" is by no means redundant. I loved that video about the first suit. I had no idea that they had to go though even more cumbersome and ridiculous prototypes before arriving at our ungainly friend.

I was a Godzilla fanatic as a child, so one must imagine my chagrin when I realized recently that I had never seen the original, japanese version Gojira. Luckily it was included a few months back free in the sunday paper. Watching it, I was struck by how incredibly dark it was ( children trembling, clinging to their mother knowing they were about to die beneath rubble ). There was none of the kitsch or cheese in the following sequals, and no obligatory american presence and no dubbing. It was brutal and serious. The context of the obvious influence of hiroshima and nagasaki is so damn clear in the original. Small wonder they whitewashed it out so completely.

If you are a paleontologist you may or may not study dinosaurs. If you study dinosaurs, you are definitely a paleontologist. So it's semi-redundant.
