This is my pooch Silver doing that. He loves that deep snow so much, and is eagerly awaiting the next 4 foot storm. Now, however, he has a sister to play with in it.

That's a cute video. When we lived in Michigan our dog hated the snow and I didn't blame her. She was kind of small so we had to stamp down a spot for her to pee in if the snow was deep. I remember many cold winter nights standing in the backyard telling the dog: "Do your pittle!"

That was a great video. Does anyone remember the Peter Seller film Screamers (based on a Philip K. Dick story, I think)? With the machines that run at you underground, just a trail of disturbed earth to see where they are, and then leap out of the ground?

No reason for the question, just popped into my head.

Cold wet rain.

But it's still rain, right? Rain means warm. Melty warm.

You don't usually get buried under two feet of rain. Nor does rain make getting your car out of the driveway a two-hour endeavor. Only to have the damned plow-guy dump a bunch of rain back into your driveway, promising more happy memories for when you get back from work that night. Rain doesn't make your door stick shut (or your trunk/boot... or your hood), it doesn't make your wipers fail, it doesn't get up in your wheel well and wrap itself around every single component of your vehicle like a cold, salt-and-dirt-filled cancerous tomb. Rain ain't shit.

Bailey burrowing in the snow reminded me of those Bugs Bunny cartoons, with Bugs speeding through the earth, leaving only a ridge of disturbed earth to show his path.

Happy dogs make me happy. And man is that dog happy.

In '78, my family lived in the Chicago area. Our neighbor had a really annoying, noisy, stinky, slobbering, old hound dog, Rufus, that would follow us around all the time and get into our reindeer games. When the blizzard hit we dug giant tunnels in the snow, then we made a little cave and shoved Rufus in and blocked his egress with long icicles, then ran off to sled and play. My dad heard a terrible howling and came out to rescue Rufus, but by then we'd run off and he was too old and tired to follow!

Good times, good times.

Wow, sorry for not specifying which country. It's hard to remember to be Mefi-PC when I'm smiling so hard about an adorable, joyful dog. Yeesh.

Lemurrhea, I've been trying to find that movie for years! I was starting to think I was remembering a particularly detailed nightmare as reality. Of course, in this instance I prefer the Bugs Bunny comparison...

With the machines that run at you underground, just a trail of disturbed earth to see where they are, and then leap out of the ground?
Uh, I think you're thinking of Peter Weller of Robocop/Buckaroo Banzai fame, and not, say, this guy.

Although admittedly that would have been all kinds of awesome.

The bit from about 1:20 to 2:00 where Baily is completely under the snow and just burrowing along is nearly impossible for me to watch without slowly developing a big goofy grin on my face.

There is something so incredibly enthusiastic about the whole venture.

My dog has a similar reaction... for about three bounds. It goes something like this: Cattle dog goes in the back yard. There is a rabbit sitting on top of the snow which is about two feet deep. Cattle dog sees bunny and tries to chase, rabbit disappears like a magic trick. Cattle dog makes it three steps before she realizes that snow is cold, she can't see me, and the bunny is probably laughing at her.

She then races back inside and heads for any spot where she can get under some blankets.

She isn't what I'd call the proudest example of her canine breed.
