You missed my new fav, scraper bikes. They're part of a movement out of northern California that's starting to get national press. I just love this video. Heck, they are so cool I should have done a post on them.

fixedgear: you're correct. I was previously ignorant of the term. It was still impressive to see those little guys pedal their becak uphill with a passenger and their groceries without benefit of progressive gearing.

Neat. I found a picture of the model that was my first bicycle (same colors and whatnot; maybe it is the very same unit), a Raleigh Rodeo. I remember it fondly in spite of...well... (note to self: Gravity is not just for other people....).

My missus has a mid-to-low range value Giant Rincon. The last year of the thinner, heavier chromoly frames, with a beautiful matt factory paint job – I think it's called powdercoat[?] – and a set of IRC Smoothie slick tyres. It's a size or two too small for me and I absolutely love it to bits. I never thought I could get so attached to such a non descript bike. Basically, I've stolen it off her. It's my cruising to the shop MTB.

Can I elaborate by saying I believe there's something timeless about it, that's why I bought it up. She's fully rigid, too. The last year before all companies seemingly simultaneously decreed: "oversized aluminium tubing, front shocks standard, no exceptions." The last of an era. Definitely museum material in 50 years, just not right now.
