RIP, EOD After a year of daily posting, Greg Knauss is sending An Entirely Other Day to bed. I'm only reiterating what many others have said before me, but the guy can flat out write circles around most other people using this God-forsaken medium. Very few people -- in print or otherwise -- can make the trivial events in their everyday lives so amusing to read. Dammit.

A round of applause for Mr. Knauss. Hell, a standing ovation. I only discovered EOD a couple months ago, but it quickly became one of my daily visits.

But he's right. If he thinks a year is long enough, and wants to do something different, then I can't wait to see what it is.

I very much look forward to Greg's next project. His humor and overall cleverness, besides the genuinely interesting nature of his storytelling, kept me coming back.

I'll miss EOD, one of the funniest near-daily reads around, but I'm sure Greg's going to amaze & surprise us all with whatever he does next. Good luck!

i was always forwarding eod urls to my sister and brother in law imaging that greg and joanne's adventures in parenthood were very much like their own. it gave me further insight into some of the smaller parenting events that claire and i might not get around to talking about during our marathon phone conversations. i'll miss it, though i look forward with anticipation to greg's next adventure.

nooooo nooooo noooo.

ahem.

noooooo.

I'm okay, I'm okay.

I admit, everyone I know including me have been pestering Greg to write a book. So my hope is that he's doing just that, writing a book about his kids, or the things he sees walking down the street, or the goofy stuff that happens at work.

That's my hope. I'll sure miss my favorite daily read.

The one downside to walking out of a room backwards is that it makes it difficult to see where one is going. Hopefully, like Lance, Greg's just taking a breather and then he'll consider approaching this whole "write for the web" thing from a new angle. Or maybe he'll finally get around to Metababy 3.0. Or maybe he'll just fix version 2. Right now it just takes me to Plinko which is not where I want to be.

Or maybe he'll just sit back, relax, take in a lemonade, and watch the rest of us do silly things while he smiles and nods and thinks to himself, "been there done that bought the T-shirt oh what's this world coming to?" But so long as he's walking backwards, at least his shins will be protected.

Agreed with everyone. Greg is the funniest guy going. I still can't get over the story he told in January, though, about his father-in-law's health problems. Still gives me goose bumps. Thanks Greg.

On of my favorite pieces of short fiction is Greg's The Damnation of Richard Gillman, originally published in InterText. If you like that, read his other InterText pieces listed at the bottom of that story.

Oh how incredibly sad. I so looked forward to reading how Greg would turn some amazingly run-of-the-mill daily event into just that bit of humor I wish that I had the ability to extract. And the way he turns a phrase. Oh! And how will we know how Tom and Joanne are doing!?

Dammit. They always do this to me. First it was Land of the Lost, then Doogie Howser and now EOD. When will the tragedy end!!!

Alas, I can't wait to see his new project.

I am happy to have been pointed to EOD and to have laughed myself right out of my chair reading EOD. But, I am bummed and admittedly self centered in my desire to keep EOD going. Reading Lance and Calvin & Hobbes brought this laughter too. Lance came back funny, but removed the humor. C and H never returned. My life has a huge humor void all of the sudden. So maybe Greg will return to give us humor and pleasure again.

Life is not as serious as many want to make it. These folks have found the threads of humor in the matrix of seriousness.

well, no, all I can say is that this is some of the worst news I've heard all day.

but hey, maybe I'm wrong, I mean, I imagined that all that stuff that I found so amusing just floated to the top of Greg's brain and out his fingers to find its way to his website, with about as much effort as I expend in checking email each morning. But he might be agonizing over it, thinking 'geez, what am I gonna write about today' and then spend hours crafting each word, each thought for maximum effect, wracking his brain for the best way to convey the amusement and wonder of his children, the sarcasm at some of the absurdities we experience in daily life, that new viewpoint that no one else ever notices.

Now I imagine him emerging shaken, drained from each update session, Joanne begging him to quit. What he left out of that last update was the horror in Tom's eyes as he left the room backwards, having seen something unspeakable in his father while he was trying to write.

I understand now...

Hmmm, apparently Greg's new project is writing derogatory commentary about himself in the third-person. This should be interesting... ;-)

Good luck with that, Mr Windy Jackass. We'll miss EOD...

As a father of a young son myself, I always turned to Greg for his expert parenting advice. His tips were far greater than anything I ever found on such bland sites as Parenting and Offspring. Thanks to him, I'm a better dad. I don't know what to do now that Greg is closing up shop -- I guess my son will just have to raise himself now. Sigh.

EOD was the funniest thing on the internet. I will miss it.
