It's to cleverly highlight the music blogs you've been missing out on, but then again I'm a rocket surgeon. posted by pwally at 2:16 PM on January 19 [3 favorites has favorites]
The Blues Lounge In *FLAC* - to use its full name - posts files in some format called .dlc whose use I couldn't figure out after several minutes of Googling, so fuck it. posted by Joe Beese at 2:23 PM on January 19
A good way I've found of tracing the moving path of good new music blogs is to visit the existing blogs you already do and then when you inevitably can't get the soundfile every so often, you have to search. It works best when it's a song you really really like and it's relatively on the dl.
So when you search and find the soundfile, or a post about it, look through the blog itself and see if their other entries are to your liking. I did that this weekend and found some great new stuff to listen to. posted by cashman at 2:27 PM on January 19
Posting a handful of links to various music blogs, in and of itself, doesn't especially stand as the greatest MeFi post. BUT... the thread is already turning into a compendium, and no doubt many, many more links will be added here in the comments. For example, I'm delighted to get jonmc's recommendations upthread. So, maybe that's the purpose. Yeah, that's gotta be the purpose. posted by flapjax at midnite at 2:35 PM on January 19
Oh shit, jonmc, I shoulda previewed! Now it looks like we're some kinda mutual appreciation society.
I've always thought that Emmy Henning's Wind Under the Door, formerly Fangrrl, is the best music blog I've ever read. Her post about Ian Curtis, written shortly after the release of Control, is both brilliant and emotionally wrenching. posted by jokeefe at 3:32 PM on January 19
Bless you all. I live for posts and threads like this. posted by Faze at 4:26 PM on January 19

Jairus - you realized my link was to a blog directory, right? If you visit the blogs listed on the page, you'll find recent posts. posted by davebush at 5:58 PM on January 19
Jazzblogfilter: Two more excellent jazz blogs: jazzwax.com (which features good research and new interviews by its creator Marc Myers, recently including Jimmy Cobb, Creed Taylor and Buddy DeFranco. Also veteran jazz writer/critic Doug Ramsey's Rifftides is very cool. posted by Seekerofsplendor at 6:11 PM on January 19
I love posts like this too. Unfortunately, who has fucking time to go through all these blogs? If only we all didn't have to actually work for a living. posted by fungible at 6:27 PM on January 19

I spend at least an hour a day just downloading mp3s from all my various blogs... but then, music is part of my living. posted by mykescipark at 7:31 PM on January 19

It's a container format used by JDownloader, apparently. I think it's used to obfuscate the actual download URI, perhaps to make copyright enforcement more difficult? That part's just a guess, though. posted by musicinmybrain at 9:23 PM on January 19
I had been considering making a post about psych pop/folk that centered around ChrisGoesRock, but I would have barely scratched the surface that this post promises. My only beef is that this was posted right before my semester starts.
