Pfft. I could do that.
Obviously, I'd need to get someone to programme all the notes in for me and try and work out roughly where my hands and feet needed to be at the right time so I could fake like mad bashing the shit out of everything with all my appendages (perhaps save one, for daytime performances). But, you know, once I get that teeny obstacly kind of bit sorted for me, I could totally pull off that hat and feather boa combo... posted by Brockles at 9:01 PM on January 20
This is the third time this week that something has been posted that I've seen before and felt sure I'd seen it on Metafilter. Am I wrong? Not this? (it is awesome) posted by Durn Bronzefist at 9:06 PM on January 20
The sad thing is that this is the coolest thing she will ever do. Her life will be downhill from here on out. posted by b1tr0t at 9:06 PM on January 20
Ah, I may have stumbled on it while looking at "Related Videos" from things posted in this thread. posted by Durn Bronzefist at 9:08 PM on January 20
Uninformed speculation on my part:
1) She takes something out of the keyboard's left side at the end. A disc with the drum programming?
2) But, she seems to be manually playing the intro highhat with her right hand. Maybe only certain parts of the drums are programmed?
3) Not positive, but I think she's playing the bass-line with her feet.
As a recovering Rush fan, what's cool about this is how she's kind of out-Geddying Geddy. Guitar magazines of the 80's and 90's always asked how come Rush didn't just hire a touring musician or two for all the keyboard parts, instead of Geddy singing, playing bass, and playing multiple keyboard and synth bass lines with his feet. And this girl just kind of proves that maybe Geddy should ditch Alex and Neil as well.
I keed of course. Don't want any death threats from irate Canucks. posted by bardic at 9:12 PM on January 20
Impressive. We couldn't even pull this off with a whole band of four 18-year-olds. In our defense, we were all very stoned. posted by krinklyfig at 9:37 PM on January 20 [2 favorites has favorites]
I could swear this was a double. It did appear in this comment, and I know I saw it before that. However, it doesn't seem to have been linked in the Genius Electone Girl post, so...
(ahh.. It did feature in the Genius Electone Girl post after all, as another comment).
False alarm.

I fucking hate child prodigies. How about an actual, current, of-age virtuoso with awesome, to-die-for, all-original material? Or is that too much too ask? posted by monospace at 10:25 PM on January 20

Technical prodigies aren't all that rare. A kid can learn the motor skills, given enough time and practice. But I think the sort of thing you are talking about is very rare. I've seen one kid on 60 Minutes who was autistic and not only had incredible natural musical abilities but composed some amazing pieces. Can't find a good clip ... it's all over Google, if you search for '60 minutes autism music'. There is some question whether the music has emotional depth. I've seen some kid prodigies play the blues, but not really play the blues, if you know what I mean. posted by krinklyfig at 10:36 PM on January 20

Probably patches for the instruments she needs in the configuration she wants. Well, giving her the benefit of the doubt. posted by krinklyfig at 10:40 PM on January 20
Now I see what's happening. Japan is breeding an army of musicians to totally kick Rush's ass at the next Battle of the Bands. Can nobody match their adorable tween ass kickitude? We're counting on you, Canada, or soon we'll all be wearing Sanrio fashions and yelling "Yatta!" at the Saga reunion concerts. posted by Joey Michaels at 11:41 PM on January 20

Well, I can 3-star YYZ drums on Rock Band on easy. Or 1-star (in no fail mode) if you want the stick-twirling* performance.
* and I mean just the twirling. Does not include catching it before it hits the floor. Or the lightbulb. Or the TV. posted by qvantamon at 12:57 AM on January 21
Well, she's just great. I'm not sure she was really playing all the drums, but even so, wow, that was incredible. posted by jamstigator at 1:51 AM on January 21

And maybe also Geddy! Then there'd be a sort of extreme-minimalist Rush that I could actually listen to!
