That's pretty amazing. Was I the only one bothered by seeing him hold a gun though? (On the other hand, samurai swords = awesome) posted by delmoi at 11:22 PM on January 21 [1 favorite]
I like how they have a pillow and blanket set so he can relax, too. All those intense facial expressions are hard work. posted by mmmleaf at 11:32 PM on January 21 [1 favorite]
gives new meaning to the phrase 'ill-fitting suit'...that's honestly the best they could do? posted by dawson at 11:33 PM on January 21 [2 favorites]
That was unexpectedly awesome. It's the last picture that makes me want to buy one. posted by fatbird at 11:35 PM on January 21
I like the scrolling progression from 'oh okay' to 'his jaw is more square' to 'guns look unnatural in his hands' to 'wtf VADER?!' posted by ZaneJ. at 11:39 PM on January 21 [1 favorite]

I was prepared to be all righteous-indignationy about this.
Instead, I think it's all kinds of awesome, mostly because of the holyshit variety of poses they've got him in. posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 12:06 AM on January 22
I assume it's one of those Japanese heated tables. After a long day of karaoke, dynamic jacket-slinging, and dueling Darth Vader, Obama enjoys a well-deserved rest. posted by hattifattener at 12:09 AM on January 22 [1 favorite]
I'm going to walk around all day tomorrow with that open-mouth expression. posted by dirigibleman at 12:09 AM on January 22 [1 favorite]
It's not a doll, it's an action figure. :) posted by Malor at 12:31 AM on January 22 [1 favorite]
The guns were jarring, but the samurai sword and lightsaber made it ok. posted by ryanrs at 12:48 AM on January 22
This is weird.
I was looking at a boingboing post about using resin to harden a crocheted table and someone mentioned those Japanese heated low tables. The next user in line commented how he had never heard about them before, but in a series of coincidences he heard about them from different sources today. Then while my code compiles I come here, and I find this.
Dammit, I want one of those signs. Seeing the one that came with the action figure prompted me to search eBay (again). Lo and behold, the very first result is a match!
I'm loving that DiD site, not just for the hyper-macho Obama but also for the Action Man figures. I never would have thought I'd get nostalgic for GI Joe, but I'd love an astronaut Joe... for my son... because I've taken the President's words to heart. It IS time to put aside the childish things. He's so right.
Santa plz bring me a samarai obama on a fuzzy fuzzy horsie plz PLZ i'll clean up my room there are cookies in this for you posted by maryh at 4:37 AM on January 22 [1 favorite]
The gun ones give me cognitive dissonance--on the one hand, he should not be carrying a gun. On the other hand, "Obama. BARACK Obama."
(And that is the most poorly proportioned breast pocket ever. Maybe he wants to keep a couple of action figures in it. OH NOES RECURSIVE OBAMA) posted by tzikeh at 4:38 AM on January 22 [2 favorites]
It's funny how you guys are weirded out when the Commander in Chief of the entire United States military, who tells millions of people with guns who to kill and carries around the launch codes for the apocalypse, is portrayed holding a gun. posted by TheOnlyCoolTim at 5:00 AM on January 22 [11 favorites]
I like that figure well enough, but I ended up passing on it because it really doesn't look like Obama very much. I much prefer the one this Hong Kong sculptor made. The suit isn't that bad, though. It's tough to tailor at 1:6 scale. posted by MegoSteve at 5:10 AM on January 22
I keep picturing Obama getting one of his own action figures and then one of Aragorn and Gandalf and then he enacts little battles in his office when no one's looking. posted by EmpressCallipygos at 7:18 AM on January 22 [3 favorites]

Rahm Emanuel enters the Oval Office. "Mr President, we need to....uh. What are you doing, sir?"
President Obama: "Nothing! KNOCK on my door next time! ...did you see anything?"
Those Kotatsu Japanese heated tables are very green--you can keep the house cool yet stay warm and cozy. Of course it makes it hard when you need to reach for things and you don't want to move. posted by eye of newt at 8:09 AM on January 22 [2 favorites]
Rahm: "No sir. I didn't see you playing with your dolls again."
Obama: "Action figures, dude. These are not dolls, they are action figures. There's a difference." posted by EmpressCallipygos at 8:16 AM on January 22 [2 favorites]
Although now that I think about it, Rahm probably has his own action figure of himself. That he made out of the shards of the bones of his enemies. And it can only do two poses: reclining with narrowed eyes, and FUCKING KILLING YOU. posted by Dormant Gorilla at 8:17 AM on January 22 [7 favorites]
Umm, am I the only one who wondered WTF is going on under that table?
Also, I have to say I like the Obama as James Bond gun pose. The other ones, not so much. posted by threeturtles at 11:11 AM on January 22
