Will Marion Cook

"Will Marion Cook is a name to reckon with in the history of black American music." Many of us have never heard of him, but with a recent recording of his work available, along with a new biography, now would be a good time to catch up and swing along.

I just got through the "Invisible Men" chapter of Alex Ross's The Rest Is Noise before school overtook my reading habits. Ross's listening guide to the book, on his blog, has the chorus of Cook's "On Emancipation Day." I don't think that's in any of your links, apologies if it is.

Yeah, I just read about him in The Rest is Noise, too. Sure wish there were links to some music here.
