Nettoyer la zone! is my new favorite Frenchism. Mass homicide somehow always manages to sound refined and debonair when it's in French. Contre cent à la porte de Nesle!

Many wars are just for the politicians. With more of our military forces becoming remote control (robots, drones--up to 5,000 in Iraq now) this will become even more common.

My uncle was a translator during the US invasion of the Dominican Republic in 1965. The story he used to tell is that he'd be sent over to the 'enemy' combatants with the times that the reconnaissance aircraft would be flying over, so both sides would be sure to be seen in 'battle' in the photos. After the plane flew over, they all stopped fighting.

The soldiers were smart enough to realize that it was a faux war.

Thanks, cashman, for introducing me to P.O.S. Let it be known that his show in LA was sick. If anyone has the opportunity to see him, don't hesitate.
