Wow. I don't know when people started doing "XD" for "laughing," but I hate it. posted by Curry at 4:01 AM on February 12 [1 favorite has favorites]
The "XD" thing is a distinctly anime/Asian thing. posted by Phire at 4:12 AM on February 12
It definitely is not. The anime/Asian smilies aren't sideways: ^-^ and so forth.
The best part was at the end, with Batman making horrible Bat-puns, and Alfred wincing. posted by explosion at 4:18 AM on February 12 [1 favorite has favorites]
Hmm. Interesting theory. I'd always associated with that, I suppose, because I'd only ever seen it used by friends who were into the anime/Asian scene, though the whole sideways thing makes sense. >_>

Shouldn't there be some sort of alarm on the mods' computers which gets progressively louder as the flags pile up? *Not suggesting this post fits into that category, but... posted by gman at 4:45 AM on February 12
Actually, while the "Barely Funny" suite of internet comedy offerings is aggressively unfunny, this one actually made me smile. Perhaps because I just like Batman. posted by DU at 4:46 AM on February 12

Instead of throwing my snark hat into the ring about how much the video sucked (I thought it was funny, for the record, plus I've seen thinner SLYT posts), I'll attempt to derail the thread into talk of video games.
Mortal Kombat vs. DC, despite a somewhat goofy premise, is actually one of the better balanced and more fun MK games to have come out in recent years. I admit I may be biased, as I never found any of the 3D Mortal Kombat games to be terribly compelling.
I think one of the greatest joys came from this game, when hanging out with my roomies on Christmas eve, popping in the game for the first time and upon character selection, hearing "BATMAN" boom out of the stereo in that MK announcer voice. posted by Uther Bentrazor at 5:19 AM on February 12 [1 favorite has favorites]
I want to see a video of "pwned" getting pwned. posted by KevinSkomsvold at 5:27 AM on February 12
I recommend we use this thread to post videos we personally think are funny, while knowing that few if anyone will agree.
After watching the video I hit the back button and I was surprised to find that I wasn't on digg posted by I Foody at 5:30 AM on February 12

It made me forget the horrible crushing agony of existence, brought on by our inhumanity to each other and casual indifference to the consequences of our actions, not to mention the cruel acts we deliberately perpetuate on each other every day. For a couple minutes. posted by ardgedee at 6:36 AM on February 12 [2 favorites has favorites]
XD means laughing? I always thought it meant "cross-dresser."
That was funny. "That's what I did to Lois last night." posted by Guy_Inamonkeysuit at 6:52 AM on February 12
Too long by half, but not a horrible idea. I liked "Yeah right like I'd punch Superman."

I assume they have a dashboard of some kind already, but an alert seems really easy to do, especially if it sends out a quick SMS or something. That's how server monitors work, after all.
They probably have this already. Otherwise 3am crap would never get deleted.
XD means laughing? I always thought it meant "cross-dresser." I guess I'll have to stop using it so much.
It's laughworthy because you look ridiculous in that skirt, man. posted by rokusan at 7:00 AM on February 12
It'll take about two seconds for someone to mashup this with the Christian Bale recording.

It might've been funny, but I couldn't tell from the glare popping off the horrible rubber-inyl Batsuit. posted by grabbingsand at 7:34 AM on February 12
The video was lame, but damn does that seem like a good premise for a game. I wish video games weren't so damned expensive these days, I would love to try it. posted by paisley henosis at 7:34 AM on February 12
I loved it. Batman plays like I do. He's a mature man, a little too old to really get the controls. A mix of boredom, resignation, and controlled seething rage when he tries to do up/up/X/down and instead of awesome he just gets fucked for the 46th time.
"Come on! That was good!" posted by webmutant at 8:02 AM on February 12
I agree geekyguy, I will stick to pronouncing it 'owned'. Also, I will not say 'I loled', 'I rolfed' or 'I omged'. That way you will able to identify me as an old person through my speech. posted by asok at 9:08 AM on February 12
I thought it was almost as funny as those "I"m a Marvel, I"m a PC" vids. posted by ericbop at 9:09 AM on February 12

I spend a little too much time online, gaming, etc, and I can tell you that it's definitely pronounced "owned" and anyone who says otherwise is a johnny-come-lately/poseur. The word's been around for a while, but I would suggest the very popular web video series Pure Pwnage, the first episode of which came out in 2004, is largely responsible for its spread to the wider web. They are very clear that the proper pronunciation is "ownage", and that anyone who disagrees (insert generic homosexuality-related gamer insult). posted by thedaniel at 6:39 PM on February 12
I believe rules of standard usage dictate they be pronounced "prawn", "prawned" and "prawnage". posted by Marisa Stole the Precious Thing at 6:52 PM on February 12
