Jim, The Wonder Dog. During the height of the Great Depression, a "plain black and white setter" entertained and mystified the citizens of Missouri with his "extraordinary cleverness" and his seemingly inexplicable ability to foretell the future.

Jim The Wonder Dog Memorial Park

A visit to Jim's gravesite (before the Memorial Park was built)

"Jim, go to the girl with the red dress on."

I may be biased, but I liked this.

However, I am curious what Stavros thinks- it seems he would be the authority on this sort of thing.

I have had the distinct pleasure of visiting this site while I was excavating nearby in Arrow Rock, MO. It is the most interesting thing within an hour of where it is.

Jim truly was a brave dog, a dog of wonders and of, well, let's be honest, good training.

(I snagged a T-shirt when I was there - unintentionally retro fabulous.)

Sounds a lot like Clever Hans, the Wonder Horse.

Holy crap, never thought I'd see a reference to Jim the Wonder Dog on MeFi. I read the book when I was just a little boy, younger than ten, and cried my goddamn eyes out when Jim died.

Thanks for this.
