Fifteen years ago today, a follower of Meir Kahane, named Baruch Goldstein, was beaten to death after he perpetrated the Cave of the Patriarchs massacre.

On the Feast of Purim (February 1994), Dr. Baruch Goldstein, dressed as an army officer, entered the Tomb of the Patriarchs, and shot to death 29 Arabs and wounded approximately a hundred more. It is our great misfortune that Dr. Baruch Goldstein may G-D avenge his blood, who was brutally murdered by the Arabs is no longer with us.

Umm, not one to crap on a thread, but I can't see how this can even begin to be a rational discourse about unreasonable behavior of people in the middle east.

In fact, if that's the link we're supposed to discuss, it seems like this is inflammatory for inflammatory sake.

So although I said I wouldn't crap on a post, consider this one crapped on. Poor form sir.

I wish the phrasing of the post had been a little different - it seems to give equal weight to Goldstein's massacre of worshipers and his subsequent death. This wasn't a revenge killing- he was killed while trying to shoot as many people as people. And linking to a page that discusses his death as a "brutal murder by the Arabs" isn't going to get us anywhere.

A better post to mark this anniversary might have been a look at the people and organizations that still subscribe to Kahane's more radical beliefs and their impact on Israeli society and government. Goldstein was a lone wacko of little consequence today while Kahanism is still around.
