A few years ago, we had "Peanuts Meets Marvel." In another thread, someone name-checked Bring Me the Head of Charlie Brown. The Web currently brings us Peanuts characters anime-style, a la Jack Kirby, by way of Family Guy and as seen on The Simpsons. Wow, the manga style really captures the spirit of the characters. Amazing. Galactus & The Silver Surfer at the end of the Marvel link made me laugh, that's classic.

Brian on the Family guy is pretty much a direct reference to Snoopy already - white beagle with a single back spot on his back. (He's also clearly Seth McFarlane's alter-ego, which is interesting in and of itself.)

Wow, the manga style really captures the spirit of the characters. Amazing. Only in the sense that they totally do not in any way whatsoever infinity. Jeez. Charlie Brown does not scowl, that look of cruel mirth is alien to Linus, Lucy's general demeanor should be more smug/angry, and giving Schroeder a goatee is akin to blasphemy. At least Snoopy isn't inked in, hopefully because the artist realized that his nature is antithetical to the idea of realistic proportioning.

(But on the other hand, it's nice that the artist knows who Patty, Violet, Franklin and Frieda are. I'd almost expect Roy, 5 and Europa to show up.) First Post: I've met the creator of Weapon Brown on two consecutive DragonCons now, and pick up a copy at the last one. Still haven't brought myself to read it past the first few pages though. It wouldn't be good for general drawing, the characters are way too stylized, but for expressing personality it'd be great. If they could actually get the right personality down, that is.

Charlie Brown does not scowl, etc Did some googling and found the artist's gallery here. He explains some of his stylistic choices regarding each picture (young depressed Charlie Brown developing into a somewhat angsty teen, Linus gaining more confidence as he needs his blanket less and less, etc).

The only anime redo that I thought was good was the one of the Simpsons that went around a while back (here it is). Sorry, but those Charlie Brown and Calvin and Hobbes ones are abominations. Take a set of random anime characters and calliing them "Peanuts" because they have the right genders/skin color/hair color is just lazy and in the Calvin one, yeah, creepy. Seeing Calvin getting his jollies is not really an intelligent update, anymore than having him piss on a Ford logo.

I know this is laaaate to the thread, but gerryblog's blog link shows the line art for the anime grown up Calvin and Hobbes alongside the colored version and it looks like the colorist turned his frown into a smile. Alters the mood of the drawing. Calvin seems a bit embarrassed to be giving Susie a piggyback in the original. I liked it.
