The Quilt Index is a growing research and reference tool designed to share access to information and images about quilts provided by an array of contributors. You may search by category including time period, style and technique, location, or fabric.

Neat. It seems like Hawai'ian quilts got shoehorned into "medallion or framed center" when I'd think they'd be a separate category, but maybe it's just because there aren't many examples yet.

Wow. I'm not into quilts or quilting, but I certainly respect it as a medium. It's an art form, really. People — usually women — have always made quilts even when blankets were readily available because it's a form of expression and an outlet for creativity. And it's a real passion for those who are into it. I used to volunteer with a woman who from Toronto to West Virginia just to look at a exhibition quilt. So I like to see quilting being taken seriously enough that there's a resource and reference tool like this site.

I spent most of my adult life in West Virginia. There was always a large quilt display at the Cultural Center in the state capitol. Very beautiful art indeed.

Very, very cool- I'm going to pass this on to all the quilters I know. I especially love this one.

Even though I haven't made a quilt in over 10 years, I still have my stash of fat quarters. Maybe looking at this web site will inspire me. I've never been a fan of the old-fashioned pieced together type (too country for me) but the last 30 years has seen a very exciting revolution in the use of form and color. This, for example strikes me as being a beautiful update to the Icon. The colors on this stained glass window quilt are sumptuous.

oh I wish the photos were bigger.

Worth it if only for the topical sadism of "The Sun Sets on Sunflower Sue"
