A Straight Look at the Jewish Lobby from the Institute of Historical Review might help to explain the scuttling of the Chas Freeman appointment. which even American Conservative considered the “self-lobotimization” of US foreign policy that the campaign to discredit Freeman represented.
Freeman Calls Out Israel Lobby and the WaPo board burst a blood vessel. His resignation raises questions about the state of democracy in Washington. Meanwhile the view from Israel: When lobbies collide

I hope it truly does raise questions about the state of democracy, and how lobbying is conducted in Washington.

Israel aside, the monetisation of democracy in the US - to the eyes of this non-American - is grotesque. Perhaps more grotesque is that virtually all politicians, by virtue their dependency on campaign finance, are either unable or unwilling to take a stand and rein in the escalating levels of funding and their role in bastardising US policymaking.

...from the Institute of Historical Review...
Yeah, you might want to take another look at that.

The Institute for Historical Review?

Here's a Glenn Greenwald Rant about that WaPo editorial which was shockingly dishonest about the Chas Freeman thing.

I mean, you basically have the WaPo accusing him of being a raving anti-Semite seeing "Jewish conspiracies" (they call it a 'libel' even) because "for the record" AIPAC said they, as an institution, didn't have a position on him (and because they were never called during the brouhaha). Never mind that fact that several people associated with AIPAC, or big Israel boosters complained publicly on their blogs, and that Chuck Shumer actually said that it was because of his Israel views that he didn't get the job.

This just a few weeks after George Will's totally false global warming editorial.

It's really amazing, but it seems as though the Washington Post feels like it's perfictly fine to lie on in their editorial pages, even if it's to smear someone with vile charges.

I feel like there's serious problems behind the torpedoing of Freeman's bid for office, but linking to an article by the IHR about Judaism is like buying a box of Willy Wonka chocolates - you never know what you're going to get, but there's a good chance it'll be crazy and anti-semitic.

Zing, Roald Dahl.

Yes, this is a really good time to review the Israel/US relationship, but IHR is a Holocaust-denial site -- not trustworthy.

Are you serious? you linked to a "straight look" at the jewish lobby written by Mark Weber, who said "The Holocaust is a religion. Its underpinnings in the realm of historical fact are non-existent --no Hitler order, no plan, no budget, no gas chambers, no autopsies of gassed victims, no bones, no ashes, no skulls, no nothing.... Secondly, it's a religion for losers.... "

This guy is worthless.

The Institute for Historical Review. Really.

adamvasco, are you drunk? Why not just link to Stormfront? Oh, wait, you linked to The American Conservative. Close enough.

It's really sad that the US's obsession with Israel is constantly tied to historical revisionists and anti-semites with posts like these, because we really need to discuss the former without the latter muddying the water.

The fact that you refer to the Right-wing Israel lobby as the "Jewish" lobby made the link to the IHR no surprise.

Do you really not know what these people are about? Are you that naive? Your rhetoric makes me doubt it.

My cursor was hovering over the "flag" button when I accidentally favorited it for a couple seconds instead. I am so ashamed.

As a Jew, I like to say "You don't have be antisemitic to be anti-Israel. But it helps."

Here's a Glenn Greenwald Rant

Folks should start there instead of adamvasco's unfortunate link to a Holocaust denial organization. Oh, and minor point, delmoi, but Greenwald's piece on the Freeman flap is about as far from the definition of "rant" as it's possible to get. He never lets his anger get in the way of detailed, thoughtful, tenacious digging.

There's lots that has been said about the 'pro-rightwing Israeli politicians' lobby in the United States and the way it distorts debate so that conversations that occur even in the Israeli press almost never occur here. No need to go to the IHR.

Daniel Larison = Stormfront? Wow. Slithy_Tove, you either are ignorant of Larison's work or you know of it and are wearing blinders.

And while the Chas Freeman fiasco would make an interesting subject for a post, linking to the IHR kills the while thing dead. Maybe I'll do one if this gets deleted.
