Holy crap that's awesome. Herding dogs are so unbelievably amazing, the sheep were just being sheep, the humans just had the "big picture" idea, those dogs carried it out. Good job dogs.

Hmmm. I'm not convinced by all of that, I have to say. Having watched (i know, I know) a decent amount of sheep herding in the past I don't think that level of complexity (particularly the big walking sheep) is possible with that level of control. Sheep are incredibly obtuse creatures and just don't like doing what you want them to and there weren't all that many dogs and shepherds.

I mean, it's ace and I wish it were real, but the fact it is a viral suggests some serious elements of 'fudging reality'.

I have no doubt that they fudged it a bit, especially with the walking sheep, but I think most of it was just painstaking time lapse photography.

but the fact it is a viral suggests some serious elements of 'fudging reality'.

There is an element of stop motion to the enterprise, where they get the sheep into position and then string images together to get the end effect. I don't think they were trying to hide that, but even though it's not live it's still impressive.

Yeah, that's faked, I guess simple CG rather than time-lapse, which would involve hundreds of sheep (and the clouds above in the big sheep image...) staying still between two frames and then handled one by one. But it's a wonderful idea anyway, I loved it.

I'm another vote for fun-but-faked. Used to watch a lot of sheepdog trials in my wild and misspent youth and while I think they could get close to some of this via the time-lapse route, most of it would not be possible. Also, much, much easier to do via CGI--so why bother?

I would say this is more a sponsored work than a viral. Nothing about the video except the end credits implies samsung at all. They don't hide samsung's part in funding it.

It makes all sorts of sense to me that with the ubiquity of copying we are going back to the old time radio revenue model: we can't sell you the final product, so every once in a while we will mention the name of our corporate sponsor (hopefully instead of being surreptitiously sneaked into the content, it is tastefully tacked on the beginning or end as a separate blurb, as they did here). Until we have ubiquitous state funding of artists, I think we are going to have to settle for that with all art that is digitizable.

Pretty obviously fake. How are the dogs going to observe, let alone manage, the internal structure of the image?

I am apparently unable to scroll past this post and not read it as "extreme shoplifting". Then be lost in imagining how cool (but wrong, of course, terribly wrong) that could be.

Looking forward to checking out the actual video though when possible, given the rave reviews here.
