Hell, I'm going one-up them all and publish my "8 Million Songs You Must Listen to Before You Die", including the whole iTunes store. Then I'll publish my "Places You Must Go Before You Die (If You Don't Want to Feel Hopelessly Out-of-touch and Unhip)", which will just be an atlas. And each book will come with a certificate that allows the owner to feel smug.

Spotify is brilliant and I commend it to everyone here. I got an account without an invite, too. Just fill out here.

Basically it looks like a standard media player, iTunes say, but lets you stream music...legally (ad supported, or you pay and get rid of the ads). Huge range of tunes. Some strange omissions, but a lot of fairly obscure stuff as well as the obvious mainstream artists.

Aren't these lists usually just a tacky ploy for traffic/revenue, as their arbitrariness is guaranteed to generate just the kind of cheap outrage that makes people forward/post them far and wide?

I was a bit for hesitant about posting the links here for that sort of reason. I think a good portion of people are genuinely irritated by the lists being too long, short, catholic, clicky, mainstream, predictable or avant-garde. But I am the sort of sad person who actually spent hours wading through the listings collecting a playlist of stuff I wanted to listen to and reading a little more about tracks I already knew. So the post was for any others like me; but the rest of you are all welcome as long as you don't mark the covers or talk over the endings.

And I had to show off my great command of English of course.
