Ok, now I have MORE stuff to put on my too read list, as I haven't read the original Cat Shit One (I REFUSE to call it Apocalypse Meow since I see its both a bad pun and a cleaning up for sensitive Americans). Going to read, then watch this, which looks to be both totally different and wonderfully an extension of the same idea.

It's available on MangaFox if anyone wants to read it. I happen to have actual copies of the manga though. :3

I think it just reveals that war is bad, because cute furry animals die. I remember watching Apocalypse Now and thinking "Oh no, I hope that puppy doesn't get hurt" when one of the characters started carrying one around with him. Then I remembered that people were getting killed throughout the movie, and felt somewhat silly for reacting that way.

Yeah, why Cat Shit? I saw no cats. Also, I'm not sure, from that trailer, how this is supposed to stand out from any of the other two dozen Middle Eastern conflict movies that have been released in the last fifteen years. I mean, other than that the combatants are anthropomorphized animals. Which just isn't enough, quite frankly. At least for me.

I was thinking about how common it is for American animation to anthropomorphize animals and things while in Japan it is the other way around and is much more common/popular to use human characters. Not that either country doesn't dabble in animating everything, just that the popularity of types of genre is different.

This looks like something I would enjoy but it also looks like it may be racially insensitive, like The Planet of the Apes series. I hope that this is really a clever way to show the horrors of war rather than glorify modern warfare and exploit the situation in the middle east.
