Oh come on, it doesn't even lift its feet, how is it going to walk over even some medium sized rocks? My driveway has a 7% incline which I think will stymie it.
How can I invade an ice planet or sanctuary moon with a POS like this?
I have to admit, when I heard the dog barking I was kinda hoping the Land Walker was going to "take it out". posted by various at 1:23 AM on April 6, 2009 [2 favorites]
Well, cool as it is, my dream of a live-action Mech Warrior is somewhat dashed. posted by vernondalhart at 1:29 AM on April 6, 2009
I gotta say, if this is the repressive police force of the future, I'm taking up a life of crime. posted by maxwelton at 1:40 AM on April 6, 2009 [7 favorites]
Wow. He finally got it... sort of walking. I think he's been working on that robot for nearly 10 years now.
It's hard to be threatened by a robot that looks like it's going to trip over it's own ammo. posted by loquacious at 1:48 AM on April 6, 2009 [1 favorite]
It's a very nice suit. I love a good suit. When traveling I always bring a nice suit, but this suit would be difficult to pack. Too bad, because I'm sure the ladies would love to see me in this suit. posted by twoleftfeet at 3:05 AM on April 6, 2009

Even glide-shuffling, I think it could inspire a good amount of fear if it weren't shaking and trembling. Tighten those bolts! posted by DU at 5:11 AM on April 6, 2009
Pfft. Haters. If YOUR dad built a zentradi pod -- even one on roller skates with cardboard miniguns -- you'd be on cloud fucking nine. posted by xthlc at 6:19 AM on April 6, 2009 [1 favorite]
It'd take one high-tech lasso and about three high-tech humans to pull that thing down on its side. Or if that fails, one REALLY high -tech shoulder mounted grenade launcher.
Star Wars (the movie) has really gotten a small percentage of humanity off on a weird tangent. posted by Devils Rancher at 6:28 AM on April 6, 2009
Yeah, let's see you guys crack jokes when all five of this guy's robots come together and ve-e-ery slowly form Voltron. posted by PlusDistance at 7:47 AM on April 6, 2009
It reminded me of a toy my little brother had, this roller skating teddy bear that would herky-jerk along the floor on its plastic roller skates, while an electronic version of "Edelweiss" played out of a speaker in its head. Best toy ever. posted by abc123xyzinfinity at 8:00 AM on April 6, 2009 [1 favorite]
I think it needs a big, golden metal key on its back to wind it up.
Or at the very least that video needs to be dubbed with the original AT-ST walker sounds. posted by Chan at 8:08 AM on April 6, 2009

I could have sworn that was linked here before when it first came out. And it should go without saying that I want a full sized working mech, but I think I'll wait till it can move a bit faster... and has jump jets.
Still, the video had this among the related clips, and if I have to fantasize about anime vehicles, a working approximation of the bike from Akira is a pretty good one to lust over. posted by quin at 9:31 AM on April 6, 2009
