Can't access GMAIL

Gmail site "uses invalid security certificate" I have use my standard Firefox browser and IE but both give the same result: a message that says....

"SECURE CONNECTION FAILED...www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate expired on 5/2/2009 12:02 PM.(Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)"

Any idea what might be going on, or a fix for this. I was able to use a friend's laptop and was able to get to Gmail with her machine.

Never could understand how people get the two sites mixed up like that, but apparently there's something to it given how often it happens.

I assume you intended to post in AskMe, but is your computer's clock possibly set wrong (to a date after May 2nd 2009) by any chance?

Look! The certificate expired in Teh Future!

To solve this mystery we, too, will have to go back. Back to Teh Future!

I have favorited myself out of both pique and as a post-modern meta-commentary on the nature of mistakes.

Well, to be honest I've always thought that these people are so fucking stupid that they don't know their left hand from their right and should be put in work camps far away from any computer access, but that's probably an uncharitable reading on my part.

I have given you a favorite, Avenger. In five minutes, I will take that favorite away.

Well, to those of you who were kind enough to give me the benefit of the doubt for this mistake, a big thank you. To those of you who were not so kind, may you encounter no greater adversity than this the rest of 2009.

Your computer is broken. Probably a virus, or one of those "worms". Did you leave it outside overnight? Try unplugging all peripherals. Also, zap the PRAM (wait for 3 chimes; you will see the screen flash twice. Once the message "PRAM ZAP SUCCESSFUL BRO" you should be good).

The essence of the favorite is found in the fleeting nature of the favorite: ie, that it can be both given and taken away in a single moment (or five). The favorite itself is, as Derrida would say, the diachronic process of the forms and essences of human thought across the meta-filter. We can say, then, that the act of giving and then taking away a favorite is akin to the I/thou relationships of Buber et. al.

I favorite myself again out of recognition of this fact and will now ponder the significance of this individual act.

Even after a person
is gone from this world,
people often tend
to remember birthdays.

They say: today is
the birthday of someone
who would have been
so many years old.

So just in case you're
not around next year:
happy birthday.

Speaking of self-favoriting, there's supposed to be some sort of hack when you do it in deleted threads...

I would definitely check what time/date your system clock is set to. If that's not the problem, I would mention that you already tried that when you re-post this. If that is the problem, I wouldn't re-post this.

Aha! from the eminent Mr. President Dr. Steve Elvis America: Find one of your comments in a deleted thread, then favorite it and unfavorite it until you reach the daily favorites limit (yeah, it doesn't subtract from the limit counter if you undo a favorite). If you then wait until the daily counter gets reset, then favorite the comment again, N will be added to your total favorite count, where N is the daily favorite limit...

dead cousin ted: "Never could understand how people get the two sites mixed up like that, but apparently there's something to it given how often it happens."

Step 1: "Gee, I really want to ask a question but I don't want to use up my question this week in case something better comes along" OR "Gee, I really want to ask a question but I've already used up my question this week."
Step 2: "Hey, I know, I'll 'accidentally' post this to MeFi/MeTa or Projects. Some people will make fun of me but before I apologise for my 'carelessness', some of the more kindhearted people will tell me what I need to know!"
Step 3: Post your question to any site but AskMe.
Step 4: Profit?
