Any discussion of ultra-retro baseball would be utterly incomplete without this.

I've never had any interest in going to a baseball game but I do believe I'd be willing to dress up like I was going to a Victorian tea party and catch one of these things. Nice Temperance Movement placard in the audience in the Conan O'Brien bit.

I would totally go to that.

It's not really authentic until they refuse to play against the Negro League.

I kid. I read the article this morning and thought that this was cool. Not so much for the dressing up, but the fact that the equipment changes the whole tenor of the game.

I am so there.

Me too. That rule has never made any sense to me. It's like they decided to fix an error in the mechanics of the game that doesn't even exist. So much awesome mayhem could happen in infield-fly situations, why make that illegal?

That Nell from the Conan O'Brian video is kinda foxy.

I wonder if there is a market for Vintage Inter Net. You'd have have a whole collection of sites that all used 20th Century hardware and software and agreed to only link to each other to keep the illusion complete. "What ho, chaps! Take a gander at the antics and japes of this comickal dancing banana-fruit I found at the Meta Filter!"

And every now and then someone will run up and force upon you a small handbill advertisement on behalf of a purveyor of medicinal remedies for marital distress. Or perhaps they will bring you news that certain young ladies of a prurient nature, currently residing in your own vicinity, wish to engage in candid conversation with you whilst sharing snap-shots of their exposed ankles.

I think a lot of sports could benefit from this kind of retro-activation, ice hockey and american football come to mind.
