Not sure of the name. It premiered in the 70s with an album by Springsteen. Designers from the past soon copied the style.

It shoulddn't go unmentioned that there are many flickr groups dedicated to postcards: tons of great stuff there.

Is there a name for this type of style, the sweeping banner headline, usually with "Greetings From..."?

Postcard collectors usually call them large letter greetings

http://www.cardcow.com/c/1/large-letter/

http://www.vintagepostcards.org/greeting-c-232.html

I don't know what the designers called them.
