The Dzrtgrls explore mines, ghost towns, rockhounding spots, petroglyphs, geocaching and metal detecting sites, and take lots of great pictures in the process.

Fascination with abandoned places + love of the mountain west = kudos to this. Fare thee well, next several hours.

Not wanting to scour through the whole site (wow, there's a lot), and not being familiar with the area, which of these trips is within driving distance of the NW Phoenix Suburbs? I'd like to have a place to suggest for a day trip while visiting my parents, next time I go see them.
[Forgive me if this is derailing or should be in AskMe. Thanks!]

Very keen site. I'm glad the Nissan Xterra Off Road and Jeep Liberty 4X4 didn't appear more often - I was worried it was some weird attempt at a multi-brand viral site.

not_on_display, or anyone else in the area - if you start adventuring, tell me. Next time I'm in Phoenix, I'd love to wander off into the wilds.

I read the link as "Drztgrls" and expected cosplay with blackface, white wigs and curved swords.

I hate you, R.A. Salvatore.

Yuks and illiteracy aside, these ladies may wish to move their (lovely) photos onto Flickr (or something). More people will find out about them. Save on bandwidth, too.

This photo of a rusted c.1912-21 "VALET" razor blade is especially compelling, but I have a serious art-on for negative space.

Gorgeous. I miss the desert quite a bit. I miss how it'll get so still and quite you dare not move, for surely the atmosphere itself will shatter and fall to the ground like jagged panes of leaded crystal.

I like deserts and girls and I'm experienced and skilled at surviving and exploring either, sometimes even at the same time. My favorite desert is the Mojave, but I'm not unfamiliar with the Sonora. I've been everywhere from Lone Pine to Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Mecca, Box Canyon, El Centro and Antelope Valley. I am not claustrophobic and I don't mind caves or abandoned mines. I like long rock crawls, camping in sandy lees of giant rocks, watching stars and sunsets and sunrises, avoiding bottlebrush cactus and diamondbacks and pissing clear. I know my arroyo from an alluvial fan, my yucca from a joshua tree and my sand spills from cryptosoil, and thus I tread lightly with a soft, slow foot and leave no trace.

For a full list of survival skills, incidental equipment available and suggested itinerary the email is, as they say, listed in the profile.

Wow, that was my first thought too, but it seems to be unfounded.

loquacious: I didn't think MeFi Personals (SeeMe? DateMe?) was out of Beta yet.
