20-somethings who still hate their parents? where is she hanging out? at UCSF?

Must be something in the air. Only yesterday I had a conversation with former SF resident who left because they felt it wasn't children friendly.

That said, my favorite quote from the article is this:

"If you move to San Francisco, your children will never forgive you," the Realtor promised.

"If we move to San Francisco, will they have Cartoon Network?" the children asked.

Having lived both in LA and the Bay Area, all I can say after reading this is "Pot.Kettle.Black". How someone from LA would have the temerity to paint themself as less self-absorbed than a San Fransico resident is way above my personal irony threshold.

maybe someone should go to SloCal and explain that the use of the word Frisco only serves to inculcate the listener(reader) as to the sheer idiocy of the speaker(writer).

i am so totally self-absorbed in proper names.

I've visited San Fran twice and found it cold and dirty, with an inordinate amount of vagrants.

I would like to interject that I feel truly sorry for anyone complaining about SF being cold, for they have obviously never lived in a place that actually has four distinct seasons (i.e., a real winter).

That's right. SF is an awful place to live. There's nothing to do and the people are mean. It's second only to Mordor.

Please keep spreading the news.

If we keep this up, maybe I could find an affordable apartment soon :)

donkeysuck: we angelenos only use the term `frisco' because we know it pisses off the friscans.

Still, I like SF quite a lot, and always enjoy the occasional visit.

No one ever seems to describe cities as self-depreciating. Instead, the United States are full of city after city with residents thinking there are in the best place to live in the entire country if not the world. In the Midwest (and I would guess this happens in San Francisco, LA, and New York, the newspapers waste word count on articles about how great the city where the paper is published is.
Madison, WI (the San Francisco of Wisconsin, if that's possible) had an article on its front page deriding the fact that Madison had been picked as the 140-odd "most photographible city in America." The writer attempted to discredit the ranking by pointing out Milwaukee and Gary, IN had rated higher, obviously the survey was flawed.

If ever there were a large city that hates itself, it would be Milwaukee.

Well, there are problems to living in the Bay Area. For one thing, BART needs to get its head out of its ass and build some more stations. I can't get half the places I need to because of the strange limits on where BART stations are placed.

Also, the love/hate relationship with dogs needs to get sorted out, because I'm sick of both camps. I'm sick of the dogs are the second coming of the Antichrist hysteria on one hand, and the let's burn that doggie-murdering sicko who threw that precious pup into traffic rantings on the other. They aren't monsters, and they aren't children, they are simply dogs. Maybe if people treated them like dogs, there wouldn't be so many problems.

Still, I now live in the same city Emperor Norton did. The world's largest incorporated Necropolis, for when I feel ghoulish. There's a great RPG and Comic Shop right next to the hospital I am being forced to frequent, and the whole Piedmont is pretty cool. No one gives me any dirty looks over my tattoos, my jacket, my attitude. The weather is nice (if a bit warm for my taste), so far the Bay Bridge hasn't collapsed on anyone in a decade, and the dot.com shakeout is possibly going to make finding an apartment easier.

I've lived in Boston, Washington DC, Chicago and London, before I moved here. London is still number one, but the Bay is rapidly taking over the number two slot, although I'm still pretty fond of Chicago. I think Ormazhd is here, somehow.
