Evan Dando is releasing a solo album this summer. (Why not pre-order?) Forget the "alterna-hunk" crap; just download some MP3s of his acoustic live shows and agree with me that his taste in covers (esp. country stuff) is awesome, he can write a hell of a pop song, and his voice -- well, he's the Velvet Fog of his generation (in more ways than one).

Just saw Evan and Graig Markel at the crocodile a few weeks ago. Evan sounds great, and Graig kind of paled by comparison. However, I think this is an artifact of the live performance (maybe just that particular one, infact I'm fairly sure that's the case). But, as long as we're plugging our current faves: Graig's the shit. Hard Grammar is a fantastic album all around. I haven't heard the whole Summer Fire e.p. yet, but what I have heard sounds very good.

Then of course there's Maktub... you wanna more?

wow, harsh. I saw Evan play in Minneapolis a few weeks ago and it was a really good show. He played about 5 or six new songs and a great collection of older songs. I heard about some spotty shows in the past, but he has it back together now, and if you really don't like his non-crappy music, fine, but it's your loss if you're judging him based on stuff you heard in the past. As far as drugs go, if you're ruling out music made by people who have taken drugs, start chucking out cd's immediately.

Which reminds me have you heard the not so new blake babies album? it is REALLY really good. Makes you think that Juliana hatfield NEVER should have gone solo.

It is good, but if Juliana hadn't gone solo, we wouldn't have those Antenna, Mysteries of Life, Velo-Deluxe and John Strohm records to listen to. Plus Juliana's records, but I don't care about those much.
