"The marriage was in trouble. And Pastor Williams had just the thing to fix it: nude photography." I have no problem with organized religon in theory, but the execution is sometimes disturbing.....

When asked what option a woman had if she were being sexually harassed, he said she should "examine herself."

"What should she examine herself for?" Fletcher asked.

"For whatever reason she wants to examine herself.... [She should ask] herself, 'How did I get in this position?'" Byrd replied.

Why act responsibly when you can simply transfer the blame to the victim?

They all colluded to obscure the truth and abuse one of their own for the gratification of their own sexual desires, or to conceal it for the good of their own positions (in the case of Byrd that Hankins quoted above) and they make me sick and ashamed to be male.

That's it. Nothing else to say. Luckily, Saundra McFadden didn't succumb to it.

I'd certainly expect better from a guy who wanders about in a dress with a position of authority over people who trust him implicitly in a sealed off sub-culture of sexual repression.

Next you'll expect me to believe that they try to make gay people straight, or something.

She didn't succumb to it, but what percentage of people in her situation do?

All it would have taken them was a cursory knowlege of the Bible-shoot, the Ten Commandments could have sufficed, if not Dr. Laura for pete's sake-they would have known immediately that this was no"pastor" -

I am disgusted at those who would take advantage of the weak and hurting-but to use "religion" as part of the trap-
excuse me, while I gag.

(actually while a young christian in my early twenties, I escaped by a hair's breath a "situation" with a so-called evangelist-I learned quick that a title means nothing.)

I can assure you that God is equally (if not more so ).

Let me finish the sentence-"nauseated."

How can you assure me of that?

Ha. Yet another reason why I refuse to beleive in organized religion.

This is the second time today that MeFi has made me shake my head and wonder what the world is coming to.

Don't tell me you all think that organized religion has a corner on immorality. It's a "people" problem in general. But I'd agree that it should not happen. Anywhere. Will that make it so? No.

BTW, I do get weary of hearing that old chestnut, "organized religion." What has the alternative been? Chaotic religion? Organized debauchery? Is an alternative like "personal spirituality" (in the broadest sense) making the world a better place? Or just more self-absorbed? At least "organized religion" attempts to create a community of sorts.

No, but they do have excellent market share in hypocrisy.

People have a corner on the market of immorality. It's a comforting thing to be able to point the finger at "religion" isn't it? Unfortunately the blame can go no further than ourselves since an "organized religion" (Jmcnally- hate that phrase as well) is simply made up of people.

People have a corner on the market of immorality.

I don't know. We have some chipmunks that I've got my doubts about.

Actually-I hate religion.

I do love Jesus. And I love His church.

But His church and what too many times passes as church are two different things.

If any of you have ever read the New Testament, you have seen that Jesus is kind to prostitutes, tax collectors and other such-even a woman caught in the act of adultery.....but He chews out the religious establishment of the day- more than once....He hated the hypocrisy and false piety and the pride ...that only served to keep people away from God, not help them find Him.

Again- I HATE religion.
