Hey, I'll admit it: I've always envied dragonflies for being able to get it on in the air. posted by EatTheWeak at 7:42 PM on May 27
The female has diversified in color and can come in pale green, violet and pink.
So jealous.
(Oh, that's not a typo?) Nevermind. posted by heyho at 7:45 PM on May 27 [1 favorite]
I love stuff like this. Particularly, the dragonflies and such; so, so weird. I only have one shot myself but it's of some hawt lady on lady action so it's all good. posted by Stunt at 9:48 PM on May 27
Walking back from the stream with buckets of water to my stone and adobe home, I'd stop to catch my breath and watch tiny, iridescent green June bugs mating in the apple orchards where I lived for 4 years. It surprised me what a rush I got from such miniature antics.
I had no idea that the whole thing was being photographed. Really.
Maybe I made 100 bucks, total, that night. It seemed fun at the time, but now I just feel cheap and dirty about it. posted by twoleftfeet at 12:38 AM on May 28
The Lady Bug or as it is known in the UK, the Ladybird should have a worse reputation than the mosquito as it is a voracious killer and devourer of its prey, the greenfly. However, its primary coloring (although red should signify danger even to us!) has given it a much gentler public image than it deserves.
And because greenfly are a pest, and gardeners want rid of them... I don't unsderstand any of why they wrote that up to make it seem like everyone should hate the ladybird(/bug).
It's like saying cats don't deserve the gentle public image they've been given., because really they kill rats. posted by opsin at 6:32 AM on May 28
