The first link is to a video of Lolcat images, and there is a song about Lolcats playing, which someone set to the tune of "Come Together."

I generally don't like song spoofs that use Beatles tunes. posted by philip-random at 4:28 PM on June 10
Oh, what a buncha cranks! I love all things LOLcat, personally. So sue me. posted by newfers at 5:18 PM on June 10
I agree with the first video preamble - there are lots of better things to criticize than the way the performers look. That's the least of their problems. posted by GuyZero at 5:22 PM on June 10 [1 favorite]
I... err... eeeeeerrrgh... oooof. lolcat filk are two words I never really expected to see used together. Is there a word for feeling sheepish and embarrassed for someone else? I want to laugh. The delivery is... kind of wooden but I guess that's filk for you

I think it's tough, because if I saw this in an actual coffee house or whatever I would think it was kind of cute. Certainly not great and kind of embarrassing but not objectionable. But when I watch youtube where there is an expectation that songs sound like songs even if they are about memes the embarrassingness just jumps out. posted by I Foody at 5:29 PM on June 10
I enjoyed giving that 1 star. posted by dawson at 5:36 PM on June 10
I want those three minutes back.
So you watched it for three minutes? So after the second minute, were you still holding out hope that you would like it, or did you just keep watching it so you could say, "I want those three minutes back"?
I think the concept is cute, but dammit, they look and sound like they're not having one ounce of fun. They look too damned serious. People singing a freaking song about lolcats should be making goofy expressions, not focusing on their warbles and vibrato.
I think my long and torrid affair with LOLCats may finally be over. I has teh sad :( posted by zerokey at 5:54 PM on June 10 [1 favorite]
So, we've been reduced to metaLOL, have we? Let's get over ourselves, people. posted by walrus hunter at 6:05 PM on June 10
Well, I didn't have crazy high expectations, and I can't help it, I still love looking at good LOLcats pics, even if I've seen them before. So the first link (the one made after people were evidently making fun of the performers in previous comments *stares pointedly around thread*) was more fun. The song made the LOLcats more fun, though... I couldn't watch the second one by itself. posted by dammitjim at 6:07 PM on June 10
I can't say I'm particularly proud of the fact that I enjoyed that, but I enjoyed that.
Having said that, though, given the number of quote-artists-unquote out there who are rolling in money and fame performing songs that somebody else wrote, played and produced, sneering at filk is a pretty small-minded, pissy thing to do. Sure, that there's about as gangly and white a hippie as you're likely to see, but there's still a lot more life in that video than anything I've heard on the radio recently. posted by mhoye at 7:32 PM on June 10 [4 favorites]
but does it rip off The Muppet Show?

I can't believe this wasn't a double, saw it months ago, OMFG.
Yeah, I like lolcats, but then again I didn't see one until this year, so i'm not worn out yet. I have no idea how I managed to avoid them so long, but I did.
So, the video was kinda fun, nothing groundbreaking, but good good, there is a lot of cheerio pissing around here sometimes. posted by Antidisestablishmentarianist at 8:40 PM on June 10
Gave me a whole new perspective on "Come Together" and its connection to absurdism. Kind of like discovering 30 Rock = The Muppet Show. posted by l33tpolicywonk at 9:54 PM on June 10
I was going to chime in on this thread, but it seems like you guys pretty much have things under control here. posted by bicyclefish at 11:00 PM on June 10
I thought this was entertaining. On the other hand, from the ages of about ten to about sixteen I listened to literally nothing except Weird Al and Dr. Demento. In fact, the only reason I started listening to anything else was because I enjoyed the sound of "Smells Like Nirvana" enough to want to hear the original song. posted by Scattercat at 11:02 PM on June 10 [1 favorite]

Rule #437 of the internet era, also know as “the law of electronic embarrassment:” if your song and/or video comes even remotely close to that long-vaunted status of “meme”…you are required to ride that gravy-train to the end of the line, posting live versions, extended versions, and shortened versions, and making appearances on crappy TV shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live. posted by koeselitz at 12:50 AM on June 11
Wow, that second video had the most blatant line-crossing I've seen for a long time. posted by the duck by the oboe at 3:18 AM on June 11

Is there a word for feeling sheepish and embarrassed for someone else? -loquatious.
In Spanish, it's verguenza ajena. Literally, foreign shame.
...and the link answered that. As to it's universality, I've never really studied it. It's just yeah, you're right this is exactly that. posted by lizarrd at 8:07 AM on June 11
If you were going for a major douche-chill-inducing experience, I give this the full 5-stars.
