Is it me, or does Bush's new friend look like Hitler? Check out the guy next to GW and tell me that's not the leader of the Third Riech come back from the dead.

The original link is here but MSNBC changes their cover page so often and I wanted everyone to get a good look.

Not really.

My question is: Does Bush need to get an eye exam? Straining your eyes is bad for you. And he seems to do it all the time. What the heck are they looking at anyway

Hey, that's the Spanish Prime Minister you're talking about. :)

Now that you mention it he does look a little unfortunate in this photo - don't let the Basque separatists see it or it'll be splashed across their propaganda for years to come...

The hand upraised in the Nazi salute doesn't help. Beautiful picture!

Holy kafoley is that an unfortunate choice of arm positioning for someone with that unfortunate choice for facial hair patterns. He either needs to shave or pay closer attention to his gesturing. I'd recommend the former; it's easier.

Heh, Bush returns the salute on the front page of the Washington Post.

Is straining your eyes really bad for you? I do it all the time. Will I become an idiot?

Maybe we should call him "Anzar" instead of "Aznar". :)

Actually, if you look closer it looks like he's got the standard porn-star mustache. It's just the shadow of his nose in the mid-day sun that makes it look like a little square Hitler moustache.

Still, I doubt the Washington Post overlooked the overall effect when they decided to run with this photo.

I don't think that he's straining his eyes, I think he's squinting against the sun. He's likely light-sensitive, I believe he wears contact lenses, which means that he should be wearing sunglasses any time that he's outdoors for the sake/health of his retinas. But when was the last time you saw a politician wearing sunglasses? I can only imagine what kind of outrage would be leveled toward Bush by the MeFites if he protected his vision thusly.

He always seems to be squinting, maybe he should upgrade the contacts. And what the heck could be
so important that they are looking at.

"Mr. President, we have lovely mountains here in Spain. Look over there."

"Gee. Those are some neat looking mountains. Hey, is it true what they say about the rain here,
you know how it falls on the plain?"

"Huh?"

I don't know, he kinda looks like Jeremy Irons to me, not as sexy, but sure.

Sorry but I am not sure which one is supposed to be the fascist.

Actually, here is the real audio portion that goes with the picture:

"Have you ever been to Spain, Mr. President."

"No Mr. Prime Mister, but I kinda , well you know, I kinda like the music."

"Well, look over there there [pointing] are some flamenco dancers that will knock you're socks off."

"Oh, thanks Mr. Prime Mister [squinting]. But you know I can't look at that stuff."

"But the other President, Mr. Clinton, he always wanted to see the ladies."

"No I know, Mr. Prime Mister, but things have changed. I can't be looking at that stuff. I'll be in terrible trouble."

"With your wife?"

"No with Dick Cheney. Don't get me wrong, the ladies are perdy as heck and all. Its just, well can't be doing that in public."

"But I thought, you know, Mr. Clinton used to--"

"Yeah, I know. He kinda ruined this job for me. No perks, anymore."

I believe he wears contact lenses

Maybe he's just trying to listen to something on his cochlear implant prompter.

Right. Ooooh we hate sunglasses! I hope no one here actually wears them, because man, we all hate them so much.

I'm a crazy sunglasses hating metafilter man, now won't someone give me some candy!!!

I think wearing sunglasses would gain Bush ten points in the polls.

I see that Tripod has the same "Fuck you, outsiders!" feature as Geocities now.

Here's a better picture of Aznar, showing he has a full-fledged Harry Reems mustache. The other pic is just a trick of the light.

Sunglasses? Franco used to wear them, but I always think of the Greek military junta leaders, all in sunglasses, even inside, in Z.

Matt, I take it then you were never a big fan of Top Gun?

I have to admit, I think the PM looks more like a used car salesman-by-day/pornstar-by-night than Hitler. HOWEVER, the reverse salute (by Bush) was so very funny, as was the sunglasses response, that this rift has been well worth the time and effort. Not to mention that if I ever seen Aznar eating at a fancy restaurant in DC, I'll recognize him as Spain's head of state RATHER than a porn star, which should save me the potentially embarrassing experience of dropping a fork by his table, bending over to pick it up, and saying something horrible like "have you ever been forked before?" and expecting sex.

Thank you for that assistance.

Speaking of sunglasses and junta leaders, Jaruzelski (military leader of Poland who declared martial law in late 1981 and til the round table accords with Solidarity in 1989) ALSO had sunglasses. His vision was impaired (light sensitive) when he was in a Soviet camp for naughty soon-to-be Eastern European dictators/"national saviors." So, it is obvious to me that NOT ONLY are people who wear sunglasses junta leaders, they are also commies.

So it is for good REASON that we hate sunglass wearers: they're COMMIE REDS--or they are the evil terminator, which is almost as bad.

You'll never see THIS full blooded American/completely non-robotic individual wearing sunglasses!

think about it.

Actually he looks to me like James Mason back from the dead, but playing hitler.

Another pic from the NYT makes him look more like Edward James Olmos if you ask me.
