Well, I should have just answered my own question before posing it here, as I now have (wiki), so having exposed my ignorance, I will bow out with the statement that I hadn't realized how much of DJ Food's mix was verbatim sampling of this one.

Is it ever! And I knew it uses several pre-existing mashups, I just didn't know it was so extensively using extended segments of other people's mixes. Which is to say, I knew it was a song made of songs, I just didn't know it was a song made of songs made of songs.

I just discovered this song this week, my friend recommended it to me - it's fun when something you discover for the first time and had never heard of pops right back up somewhere. Thanks for the post. It's a neat song in terms of how all the samples fit together, and the sense of humor Osymyso has, but it also has a really nice mellow vibe that carries through the whole thing.

This was mentioned previously. I rather like Osymyso's work with/for Simon Pegg. He mixed the Shaun of the Dead soundtrack for the official soundtrack CD, and did a little something for Spaced.

I bought the original CD pressing of Intro-Inspection at Rough Trade in London six years ago. Complete head fuck in the most positive of ways. I remember reading somewhere that the inspiration for the track was his experience as a DJ. He was frustrated that people would run off the dance floor when he spun killer dance tracks that no one had heard before yet come running back the moment he played a classic tune like Tainted Love. He decided to see how many of those instantly recognizable intros he could fit into as short a period as possible, with the caveat that it had to be at least marginally danceable. IntroInspection came out a long time ago, maybe around 2000? Its very well known among people that know mashups, which is why DJ Food used it on Raiding the 20th Century. (As others have said, Raiding the 20th Century is a mix of other people's mashups). The video linked to by this post seems to be fairly new though. Osymyso's stuff is awesome, but he seems to have reconfigured his website recently, usually there are a lot more tracks for download there. His remix of 'Walking in the Air (Heathrow Expansion Mix)' is one of my favorites. Also his longer mixes such as 'Puckish Mix', 'Fasterer Mix' and 'Slowerer Mix' are very good. You may be able to find them on p2p or elsewhere. He has a 1 hour mix which is released as part of the Warp Records 20th Anniversary box set, out now. Chris Morris fans or people who don't like George W Bush will enjoy Osymyso's remix of 'bushwhacked2', which can be downloaded here: . This is a musical remix of Chris Morris' cut and paste reconfig of a GWB speech, done around 2003/04. Its NSFW, btw.

We call them mashups now, but I remember when this was a very small, very quirky subculture -- the booties. Yeah, I'm not too surprised it got rebranded. Osymyso was my introduction to the scene, but it was Soulwax/2 Many DJs that, in my mind, really started making brilliance of it. This was right around when Eminem was at the peak of his career, and however it happened, there were so many people with Eminem's multi-track mixes that the art form really took hold.

He's been working on a proper album for years - hopefully it will see the light of day soon. effugas: This was right around when Eminem was at the peak of his career, and however it happened, there were so many people with Eminem's multi-track mixes that the art form really took hold. I'm not sure a million versions of "Without Me" made the bootleg scene and it was the fact that there were acapellas on Eminem singles (actually quite a common thing for commercial Hip-Hop then) that meant people could use them, not the availability of multitracks. Other than that you're probably right!
