Some of these are pretty funny. Shame about the drawing, tho. Yeesh. posted by ElmerFishpaw at 2:51 PM on June 23, 2009 [1 favorite]
Yeah being able to draw or at least create a non-eyeball-rape image is sort of a prerequisite to having your own cartoon strip. Plus the JAWS strip is just dumb. posted by autodidact at 2:56 PM on June 23, 2009
So let me get this straight, half of them involve characters getting jobs doing what was already their profession (billy mays "gets a job" as a pitch man), and the rest are offensive to women or minorities?

Is it a little obvious to point out that the creator of this strip should get a job in a non comic related field? posted by rhymer at 4:03 PM on June 23, 2009
Gah. Great concept, total lack of things require for writing comics, namely skills of an artist (seriously, Homestar Runner looks like Michelangelo comparatively), and wit. I was thinking this would be great, but no. Just, no.
It's amazing how little people seem to understand irony, and what makes people laugh. posted by Ghidorah at 4:16 PM on June 23, 2009 [1 favorite]
Ow. This hurts to look at, AND it isn't funny.
Did that dude from User Friendly finally get a new job or something? posted by dunkadunc at 4:16 PM on June 23, 2009 [3 favorites]
Yeah, this was weak. Warbot in Accounting - STRONG. posted by GuyZero at 4:59 PM on June 23, 2009 [3 favorites]
You know, I bet this strip was created by those creepy New Media kids who always sit on the couches in the student union wearing cat ears, watching anime, looking at furry porn, and listening to J-Pop on each others' Macbooks. It's got that unique mixture of graphical slickness, lack of artistic talent, and jokes that just aren't funny that only the anime kids could pull off. posted by dunkadunc at 5:18 PM on June 23, 2009 [2 favorites]

I think that's the joke. It's like some kind of postmodern Andy Kaufman thing.

So "Jaws" is the name of the shark? Is "Nightmare on Elm Street" Freddie's real name? The shark's name is Bruce. Duh. posted by brundlefly at 7:26 PM on June 23, 2009 [1 favorite]
I read that as "Marlo gets a job as a plumber" and thought, whoa, so he kills people, and boards them up in their bathrooms? Then I saw it was Mario... posted by wuwei at 7:48 PM on June 23, 2009 [2 favorites]
Wuwei, wouldn't it be that Marlo is a plumbing contractor? He has Chris and Snoop kill people, fix their sinks, and board the bodies up in the bathroom. posted by Ghidorah at 7:50 PM on June 23, 2009 [1 favorite]
Heh, well, at least the thread was good for the Warbot in Accounting link. posted by spiderskull at 10:50 PM on June 23, 2009
Atomic Robo by the same artist is pulp-tastic awesomeness. So good. posted by GuyZero at 11:36 PM on June 23, 2009
Even the characters themselves look uncomfortable being in this comic. posted by malapropist at 11:45 PM on June 23, 2009
The creator is clearly unsuited to cartooning, so at least there's a nice self-referential quality to it. posted by i_am_joe's_spleen at 1:26 AM on June 24, 2009
Remember the old days, when evil corporate syndicates squelched every creative impulse of comic artists, shattered the dreams of thousands of potential artists, and cranked out newspaper after newspaper full of politically correct, personality-free, non-edgy comics featuring talking dogs and cute children?
This reminds me of latter-day Simpsons in concept.
