This adult swim bump didn't make any sense until I saw this video. I think it changed my opinion of Taylor Swift, if only for just shy of two minutes.

I really want to say that the "What? What? I knit sweaters, yo!" was sort of clever, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that Joey Michaels upthread got it right and this feels a lot like what Portman already did better and earlier.

Also, as I get older I've come to discover that whatever auto-tuner effect is being employed here is less and less likable; I can't sing, so I don't. Follow my lead.

But then, I'm over 30 and therefore naturally and probably righteously untrustworthy.

I only find the autotune bothersome if they try to hide it. I think it's a bit overdone the way T-Pain has made it popular, but it's pretty cool that it's being used in a way that was never really intended when the technology was designed, like an instrument in itself. T-Pain is all about selling music and making money, but there are moments in his music where I gotta admit he knows his instrument, which is his voice through the autotune effect. But it's limiting and sort of gimmicky.

His chain says "BIG ASS CHAIN".

Her voice is terrible for rap (I've never heard her do anything else, so I make no comment about her ability to sing), and there have been funnier instances of someone who is "so not a rapper" rapping, but it's got its moments, especially at the end.

Discovering that there is someone actually (pseudonymous or otherwise) named "Tallahassee" reminds me of Tallahassee Econolodge.

That is all.

Pinksuperhero is right, the auto-tone beauty of "she didn't even swear" makes the whole song. From what I've heard, his actual singing voice is pretty rough. I like that he's willing to poke fun at the software that keeps his career alive.

Blender Magazine ("Little Miss Perfect")

Yeah, I'm not comfortable with all these famous super star people getting the famous without me knowing about it. Four million albums sold in the USA means I should feel the need to smack about one in every eighty-seven people I see walking down the street. I should need to be smacking them right in their ears. They should know better. But I can't do that because my shoulder is too sore, and I can't walk that fast anymore since my knee surgery.

I've somehow missed Portman's rap...the visually censored / explicit audio version is a thing of beauty.

I'm sure T-Pain/Swift's rap is funnier for those who actually know who the hell they are, Portman's video certainly is for me, but a comparison really isn't in their favor.

(According to Wikipedia, "Swift was the biggest selling artist of 2008 in America with combined sales of more than four million albums." So I listened to a couple of her hits and a) still no bells ringing, b) country-pop is as horrible as bling-rap.)

!!

1. Auto Tooooooooon the Newwwwwwwwwwwwz! Also, Sarah Gregory of the Auto Toon the Newsss.... has a smokin band and a great voice without auto tune!

2. Wait.. wait... there's a site collecting Adult Swim bumps? Please please please tell me some guy at Wililams Street is quietly sending these up to the site, and that folks are not taking the time to record, rip, and upload the content themselves? The former is pretty great. The latter sounds like too much wrork...

3. Adult Swim kind of jumped the shark like 6 years ago, or whenever live action started taking more air time than Cartoons on the G_D D_MN CART__N N_TWORK!! Mighty Boosh aside, because if people haven't seen that, they need to see that.

4. Why am I numbering these?

5. I too, did not know the T stood for Tallahassee. I'm just a sucker for T-Pain because he seems perfectly self aware of his 15 minutes and is doing a marvelous job of not taking himself too seriously while making all this cash (see his SNL - I'm on a Boat track - kills, absolutely kills.)

6. AUTO TOON THE NEWWWWWWWS!

7. I first became aware of Taylor Swift by hearing her "Teardrops on my Guitar" single on the radio (Gasp!! radio introducing me to new music?! AYEEE) -- by the way, what the holy hell is up with her record label remixing it with a pop beat and acting like it hasn't changed? gross.. ANYHOO - I remember being struck by the simplicity and heartfelt writing in the song, expecting to find some long standing country star seeking to cross over and instead finding some new little kid. Nice stuff.

8. Auto Tune is kind of nauseating -- I think Cher first brought it back a few years ago? And I think Madonna had a track on her album near hers using it -- maybe American Life. I agree -- T-Pain has taken it in a whole new direction, drawing attention to it and actually making it part of the composition. I think it's a lot of fun, it'll get old, but not yet -- every T-Pain track still makes me giggle when I hear it. Did I mention Auto Tune the News?

9. Kanye's attempt at using it on his heartbreak album kind of.. well... didn't make fun of it, and it sounded weird. :(

10. God please stop numbering. WE LOVE YOU NATALIE!

Oh lord I fucking hate autotune in hiphop. I hope they get over this T-Pain shit just as soon as possible. Jay-Z's got my back on this.

Those of you who are still amused by it clearly haven't been listening to hitlist rap and hiphop. Hiphop sounds progressively more like pop, with continuous autotune warbling and endlessly repeating hooks replacing verses. It's like the entire rap industry got ahold of this toy, and they're all like, "I gotta put out a track with this." Then they hear everybody else doing it, and they're like, "Well, we gotta have some auto-tune up in here, 'cause otherwise it sounds old."

Well, you aren't a rapper if your songs don't have verses. If the only thing I remember about your song is that it sounds like a malfunctioning Swiss cyborg, you're a failure as a hiphop artist.

And Taylor Swift is that bitch who did Teardrops on my Guitar? What insipid horeshit. She and T-Pain deserve each other. I hope they start a band. They'll definitely need a theramin, a didgeridoo, and a fucking keytar to round out the group. They can call themselves "Swift Induced Pain".

Props to adult swim, though. The bumps frequently intrigue me.
