Ross Racine's work may be interpreted as models for planned communities as much as aerial views of fictional suburbs, referencing the computer as a tool for urban planning as well as image capture.

His work process is interesting. This is the first art I've seen in awhile where I've thought "I'd like to collect that". Alas, no galleries listed near San Francisco.

I tried to collect that! But I got outbid at a benefit auction. If I remember right, though, his wife bought the painting I'd donated to the auction, so at least I collected in reverse. Or something. I always find fake maps hypnotically interesting.

God, these are chilling. My house is in a planned community modeled after Levittown, and laid out in meandering, cul-de-sac-ish fashion around a pre-existing small town, that town itself built around a hexagonal center. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that Mr. Racine was responsible for the design.
