Oh what a great idea.

Those are pretty awesome.

"Someone tweeted" sounds like a euphemism a mom would use for when the cat pisses on the carpet.

An awesome concept executed well. I just wish there were more!

Also, Rosie the Riveter is garbage. Reddit? For real? The rest are great, though.

Not enough. Not enough by half.

*heh* There was a bunch of these going around during the early Bush II years. I made a t-shirt out of "John Ashcroft Is Watching You" that still gets comments when I wear it.

Nice. Makes me wish I'd actually printed up these bumper stickers I made in 2006. Other slogans included "FOR YOUR PROTECTION" and "AMERICA PREVAILS". The people I showed it to kept saying "uh, Bush can't run again" and not getting the joke, so I canned the idea.

I..... I don't get it.

Really? Here's some of the original WW2 propoganda posters (WW1), of which these are parodies based upon the theoretical "threats" of subversion and "patriotic duties" promoted by the same posters for a theoretical future WW3.

The title of this thread makes me very sad. "Loose tweets, sink fleets"... really?

When you ride with comma abuse you ride with Hitler.

One does wonder if they really didn't see the irony inherent in this one. But then one considers sites like Little Green Footballs and thinks, "no."

How would you know this? Oh wait, you're a grammar Nazi. Never mind.

Very awesome.

"Keep mum...she's got a blog!"

We had this on our living room wall whem I was a kid. I thought the woman was so beautiful, you would lose a war for her.

I dunno, photoshopping old propaganda posters is kinda lame - it's an appeal to history and sponging off of nostalgia (of what worked, which is cool). But I think that which bothers me most is that they're subsuming something good for something meh.

There were the London Police propaganda posters that were a total fail.

Maybe propaganda works when people are willing to believe what the propaganda is trying to tell them? It's just a nudge to help keep people moving along the lines that the ruling class wants.

These original posters were to encourage sacrifice to fight against Facism/Nazi-ism vs. these remixes that are trying to get us being, what? War against our own civil liberties? I don't get it. If this was about "Tweeting" that helped spread news about the Iranian voting rigging, sure, maybe, but this is pretty ... meh.

From lazaruslong's link: for some reason I'm really digging the font on this one.

mattdidthat, I think that was a completely separate idea. Your examples are propaganda posters updated to a modern, transparently cynical viewpoint; these WWIII posters are maintaining the original viewpoint but are updated to modern accidents of technology.

Kid's only about 20. And a film student, not a history student. I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be overanalysed like this.

That said, nice idea; well executed. Why don't I do stuff like this anymore?

We're going to see this same joke every time there's some tiny incremental change in communication, aren't we?

1959: SOMEONE BROADCASTED ON TV!
1969: SOMEONE TRANSISTOR RADIOED!
1979: SOMEONE USENETTED!
1989: SOMEONE CELLPHONED!
1999: SOMEONE BLOGGED!
2009: SOMEONE TWEETED!
2019: SOMEONE HOLOCOMMED!

I get it. But I don't think they're particularly clever or funny. Still, I suppose the world would be a dull place if everyone shared my particular sense of humor. Carry on.

It's a good thing we're coming up with these now, because WW III won't be long enough to print the posters while its going on, and I don't think there will be any printing equipment left afterwards.

The good part is that with Twitter and real-time communication speeding up the news cycle, we'll be able to go from rumor, to breaking news, to talking-head analysis, to ironic snark, to boredom, all during the 20 minutes or so while the missiles are in the air.

I think that we're all pretty much kidding ourselves to think that there will be much by way of civilian-accessible Internet in the case of World War 3.
