NYT celebrates 40 (or so) years of FORTRAN
The computer language that started it all is remembered in this breezy Times article (reg. req.'d.). [I think it has to do with some recent reunion of original team-members, but any contemporary event to rationalize printing this is buried in the copy.] Do something high-level with your computer today to commemorate. Im really getting tired of the links to the New York Times, you can't see the story unless you go through a bunch of "waste-my-time-why-don't-ya" steps. Everytime I see a Times link, I simply ignore the story.

i wonder what the web will look like in 40 years. will it progress at the same rate as computer programming?

In 40 years, I will be 62, and, when interviewed by the New York Times I will say, "Metafilter was the web site equivalent of the transistor; I can't live without my wireless-internet brain implants."
