Food, photography, and a Vespa

Clay Enos one of the best still photographers in the country, is embarking on a road trip from New York City to Vancouver. Clay will be riding 150 miles per day on a Vespa GTS 300, planning to eat only locally produced food along the way..

Follow Clay via flickr, twitter, and gps. He should be on the road tomorrow morning!

"The companies I'm engaging to be part of this trip are folks I couldn't imagine doing so without. Apple makes my computer and phone, Nikon makes my camera and lens, Vespa makes my scooter. While I'm indebted to many, those are my essentials."

On the road like this, I'd rather have the company of Dean Moriarty.

I See By My Outfit is a great road book.

There's a cross-country scooter race every other year. Some friends of mine have done it.

An acquaintance went on a 15,000 mile trip on a 2001 Honda Reflex scooter. (I had to dig this link out of the wayback.) Amusing route map.

No idea if he ate localvore along the way.

cvilleluke: "internet!Hanna... just so you realize the guy gives Vespa Vagabond full credit for doing it first!"

Ah, I found the link now that you said that. I didn't mean to imply this guy was being unoriginal, I just remembered the Vespa Vagabond writer from her new blog, The Daily Coyote.

Full disclosure: my ride is a scooter (though not a Vespa, sadly) and if it weren't for school, I think I'd be doing this sort of thing too.

That sounds like a fun trip.

Wake me up when somebody does this on a Honda Ruckus.

Well if you go to the scooter cannonball run website, people have done that on a ruckus.

What is it with the obvious brand naming? Tomorrow I'm going to work with my Toyota, my iPod, my pair of Keen and my Prana sweater. Yes, I know, it's just work, but I'll twitter you and let you know I bought some local chicken and home-made root-beer for lunch.

"What is it with the obvious brand naming?"

here's how this works, ddaavviidd, you're a photographer, you've got a month to kill prior to a major shoot... you get some big companies to foot the bill for a month long adventure in exchange for a little name dropping.

But, I'm thinking it's not gonna work for ya with that Toyota. :)
