I see Eric Jacobson has largely taken over for Frank Oz. I agree that their vocal ranges are similar, but Jacobson's Sam the Eagle edges perilously close to Yoda territory, which Oz's never did. posted by Faint of Butt at 11:39 AM on July 4 [1 favorite]
What is Beaker wearing? I can't get the historical reference. Like a Paul Revere thing without a tricorner?
seandq, I always had that feeling about the Sams. posted by Mister_A at 12:45 PM on July 4
I love that it usually takes something arch/snarky/cruel/smutty to get me to laugh as hard as the Muppets are able to do with simple harmless sillyness.
I can't think of anything outside of old WB cartoons that has the same effect on me.

I think the reason for that is that there's so little simple harmless silliness around anymore, at least that's not drenched in sugar and pitched to little kids. posted by JHarris at 12:58 PM on July 4 [2 favorites]

How awesome would it be if America had been founded by Muppets? The answer is it would be insanely awesome. Rolf would have made a great Thomas Jefferson. Why does Rolf never get the credit he deserves? Why? You'd all better start respecting Rolf. posted by dortmunder at 2:45 PM on July 4 [1 favorite]

I watched this about five times this morning. I think my favorite part is how the bear worriedly tracks the Swedish Chef's progress in chasing the chicken, all the while never missing a beat.
Oh I also like the slow-motion buffalo stampede. I can never get enough of that sort of thing. posted by sugarfish at 3:53 PM on July 4

That would be at least three, though I was in Canada, so that didn't count towards the ratings. But I have the DVD of The Storyteller, which was the best part. posted by jb at 9:40 PM on July 4
