In a few of these, I have to wonder about what she's actually doing.

[a treasure trove of snark, paduasoy--some of these are great]

Her "Foolish Shallow Dreams" are headlining at Mondays With Marylin All Drag Review and "passing" for a whole night, right?

Surprise, surprise! Turns out that the world is full of disappointments and tear shedding when you leave the kitchen! We really build them for you, you know ...

Oh, the many, many tears I've shed over loving Dick too much.

Where the hell was this when I was looking for an image to steal for my Teen Tragedy mix disc covers?!?!?

This did bring tears to my eyes, but they were tears of hilarity.

I and my unsightly elbow warts would be terribly offended, were I not too busy sobbing with heartbreak.

My favorite: People In General

I have days like that... they usually end with the letter Y.

Did women of the fifties really stutter in their thoughts?

If these were manga, you'd be right.

Did women of the fifties really stutter in their thoughts?

No, but an awful lot of cartoonists stuttered in writing.

A rare case where the quips under the drawings make them 10x funnier.

Epono ... uhm ... noincidental? Eponymetrical?

Oh, and if we're naming my favorites, I'm currently partial to Steve Trevor Not Returning Your Calls and Knowledge.

Knowledge makes me think she must be on a quiz show ... but why is she being menaced by a be-towelled store dummy?

heyho: the bad composition of that tempted me to invent a little story to make sense of it.

A lady's flying detached head is stalked by her persistant and obnoxious animated headless body; the body wants to have a head again, but the head just wants to fly away to Oxford to study philosophy.

1950s comic book chicks also cry because Superman is a dick.

Where can I give money to help people born with this condition? Does it have name? It feels wrong to call them " banana-fingered man-necks. "

I dig, if you will, these pictures. So this is what it means, like, when chicks cry.

The captions are amazing. Typographical errors, indeed.

I am not surprised in the least. All of these comic books were from the 50/60's. They believed that women were strange and cried at odd times.... nothing has changed except for the fact that they were pants now. ;)

A brilliant post! I think I like it better when the characters seem to read their own thought balloons. I esp like Evil Rancher's question about whether people *stutter* int heir thoughts.

Lichtenstein? It's never, never necessary to bring up that art-swiping, light-boxing bastard.

The best, of course: "Being psycho."

Seeing them all at once in a big grid (yes I have time on my hands) makes me wanna do a crying-50s-girl montage set to "Typical Girls" by the Slits.
