Actually, it sounds like she did a lot of things well. To quote Emerson:

To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This was great, thanks for the post. It's not as good as the one posted here, but here's a self-written obit from a good friend of mine. I think he did a pretty good job [both on the obit and the way he lived his life]: "Born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 11, 1951, Steve didn't much care for the harsh Ohio winter, so he moved to Charlotte at the age of two. His mom and dad came with him- the late Eleanor Jean Daugherty and Robert Gossett of Brewster, Ohio. Steve occasionally attended Myers Park High School and graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida with a BA in anthropology. Never one to allow education to get in the way, Steve spent years traveling the country as an itinerant carpenter and barroom philosopher. He then accidentally worked 20 years as a baggage handler for a major airline, as well as a variety of mundane jobs: any excuse to meet and talk to new people. Steve often lauded himself for going through his entire life without ever having a real job. His primary interest was his love and service to his AA friends and community which saved and rebuilt his life, allowing him the luxury of many bonus years of life. All of Steve's problems were high-class, luxury problems and his friends were the finest in all the world."

Thank you for this. I received the dreadful news this week that a dear and old friend has lost her battle with cancer and will die in somewhere between 2 weeks and 2 months. She's another free and strong spirit like Nancy. Nancy's take on her own life has just made me feel so much better able to deal with this.
