A "Balloon-borne Large-Aperture Sub-millimeter Telescope" ( BLAST) has made 2 science flights. The documentry Blast! is as much about science as it is about the crazy life of scientists.

I worked on the bolometer part of this experiment (well, related cosmic microwave background experiments) about a decade ago. Cool stuff.

one of the reasons I became an engineer is that early on, I realized that engineers (and scientists) can get to do some really crazy stuff.
