But does she know how to vote?

(Ow, stop throwing things at me!)

too bad she didn't attack the abusive animals that turned something as loyal and friendly as a pit bull into a mindless meat-grinder.

The whole "pit bull" is a media creation, or the creation of some person's imagination which became a media thing via its being picked up for stories. There a bull terriers, etc., but no pit bulls.

CrayDrygu: Thanks, but I've heard vets argue the contrary. It's a name I never heard before the 1980s. It may have been used popularly in some areas or some circles, certainly. But the American Kennel Club doesn't recognize the "pit bull" or the "American Pit Bull Terrier" as an official breed. And plenty of bull terriers, Staffordshire terriers, etc., get lumped in with the fighting dogs and banned after city councils and county boards place a ban on "pit bulls" (often including "Staffordshire terriers," etc.) in reaction to articles such as the above.

1898, just not the AKC... Regardless, organized pet breeding is perverse . My mutts came from a rescue organization.

Yo, methyl, I lived in Tallahassee for a year -- attended Maclay High School. And god, if it isn't a shock every time I hear news from there. I went to school with a lot of kids of government officials -- during the Florida election debacle, I kept thinking that CNN was filming my friends' dads.

(Not that Long Island is any less of a cultural sinkhole... thank you sweet college, for tearing me from banality's smothering sticky embrace!)

Has anyone else noticed that the best stuff from Romanesko always appears in Florida's local papers?

What a state.

jc: Really? My only concern is animals getting euthanized as a result of hype and articles like the one above. And the linked web site basically says the same thing, even while saying there is a breed called the "pit bull," which many don't agree with. There was a game going on here? No one told me.
