The next time you receive a pesky junkmail cheque promising you untold riches perhaps you should pause for a moment and consider the prospect that it may not be a zillion miles from the truth afterall. On the other hand - this rather tediously longwinded account of someone scamming a scam might itself be nothing more than just a.. erm.. nother scam.

I was having a little trouble understanding his obsession with the wall street journal story. and I think he should have negotiated that money being given to a charity, but then I'm a lawful neutral. - rcb

I think it's a true story (or as true as any story is) for the simple reason that if it wasn't true then this guy would have been sued for libel by FICAL. But the truth is never libelous.

Either that Steven, or his writing style just bored them to tears to the point that they gave up the chase long before they reached that chapter. Rebecca: Maybe you should cover your eyes for the next thread nextdoor then. No peeking!

I'm really surprised that nobody's posted about having seen this, or this being on metafilter before...I always count myself among the last ppl to see anything, and this went round many, many times, starting about 6 years ago...guess I am among the privileged sometimes!

Hey, bub, I saw it about three years ago! Anyway... yeah, it's old, but I still think it's a good read, myself. Kino's right: it's definitely long-winded which makes me think that it's either the truth, or a precursor to Kaycee.
