Um, yeah, I'm not a huge Tarantino groupie. I think more often than not the dude is a hack, and more like a DJ mixing a bunch of film themes together than an original thinker.
However, I do like video games. A lot. I don't know where you got the sense I was fawning over Tarantino in the slightest. If anything, I feel like this pokes fun at how ridiculous and melodramatic the dude is about themes that he professes are big and important, but really he uses as an excuse for him to make a gorey, cartoonishly violent movie.

I'm not certain Tarantino has ever been about making Big Important Theme movies, and has never been shy about telling the story of how he was a video clerk who watched everything in the store a zillion times and that is what formed his sensibilities. He's not a remix artist. He's a pastiche collage artist. And he's pretty good at what he does. There are not many other movie directors who have only made 5.5 films (not sure if I count Deathproof as a full-fledged Quentin film) and who have had the kind of influence he has.

Come now, guys. Let's not fight. Let's enjoy some more mashings of things up with video games. I personally recommend "99 Problems Zone." And not just because it uses the theme music from one of my favorite levels on Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The Inglourious Basterds trailer doesn't really scream "Tarantino" to me in any particular way, other than having violent themes. This is really just a shot-for-shot parody of the trailer itself, so I don't think whether you like Tarantino should influence whether you'll like this.
I liked it, the carved Wario "W", the sinister smile on Peach's face, the running-down-the-hallway-shooting-fireballs, were all neat twists on the theme. It was a funny idea to begin with and this is about as good as I could imagine it being done.

I laughed until tears came out of my eyes. This is really well done and the best thing I have seen recently.

Is Wario really on the same side as King Koopa? I always thought of Wario as more of a standard-issue asshole than a full-fledged villain.

It gets complicated. The mushroom kingdom doesn't have sides as such. It is mostly surrounded by a sea of villains, quite a few of which Mario and gang don't end up fighting because they go down in internecine fighting never to be heard from again. Which is why every villain Mario does fight is so world threateningly horrendous. Basic evolutionary principles applied at speed. So no, they aren't on the same side, but Wario is a full-fledged villain in the sense that he has kidnapped the princess, which actually makes him pretty dangerous for the previously mentioned reasons. He doesn't seem very impressive, but he is technically unkillable. I've just devoted more brainpower to Mario villains than I did to cooking breakfast.

I don't care about Tarantino either way, but I like Mario pretty much. It deserves some props and at the very least a "heh" for the "let's-a go!".

Agreed -- it could have sucked much more than it did and I would still love it because of the "let's-a go" -- and I think it wins because you don't have to be overly familiar with the Mario universe to get the jokes, but it still doesn't pander...well, not too much.
Yeah, I'm thinking about this too much.
