Thanks a million! I just bought both Sill's albums on thick heavy creamy vinyl, and they're divine. Of course, Warren Zevon also covered "Jesus Was a Crossmaker" on Mutineer. posted by FelliniBlank at 11:55 AM on August 16, 2009
I couldn't find the Zevon cover anywhere. I looked hard, since that was the version that turned me onto Sill in the first place. posted by dortmunder at 11:59 AM on August 16, 2009
This is why I hang out here....thank you so much. posted by Jikido at 1:20 PM on August 16, 2009
Judee Sill was one of those artists that I got sick of hearing referenced so I finally bought an album a few years ago just to hear what all the hubbub was about. It ended up being a great purchase that led to picking up her second - which have both become favorites. Until recently I thought that "Jesus was a Cross Maker" was a Kris Kristofferson song, but then I realized I was thinking of of "Jesus Was a Capricorn". posted by Slack-a-gogo at 2:14 PM on August 16, 2009
Andy Partridge of XTC mad a comment once that Sill's song The Kiss was the most beautiful song ever written, so I had to see what he was on about. I can definitely hear her influence in his melody lines. posted by Devils Rancher at 4:44 PM on August 16, 2009

I should have mentioned the forthcoming covers album coming out next month, which can be sampled here. at American Dust Records. My mistake. posted by dortmunder at 3:37 AM on August 17, 2009
