Like an Extremely Demented, Extremely Funny Print Version of Pop-Up Video

Dustinland breaks with its usual format and offers annotations on the Funniest Thing on the Internet.

And although the video itself appears to No Longer Be On the Internet (due to the event having passed) and hopefull shall be mirrored somewhere, the annotations alone are quite enough to give you quite the image of precisely why it was The Funniest Thing on the Internet. Or at least enough to serve as a decent snarktroth for Mefites this Wednesday eve.

I doubt you looked at the strip prior to commenting: you almost certainly simply parsed your snark from the text of the post itself. But if I'm right, you'd not admit it anyway, so there's really no way to resolve this with you in a civil manner. Since I'm not of a mind to try to hash this out with you privately, why don't we just agree to drop it, and in the meantime, perhaps the mods will be kind enough to respond to some 'derail' flags on all of these comments?

I certainly did read the strip. Without the original video it is Hamlet without the Prince. Sorry.

I'm guessing this invitation to snark is what is starting this all out wrong.

Tom Scharpling and Paul F. Tompkins had the absolute best GotJ commentary on The Best Show a few weeks ago. (Streaming MP3, go to 1h27m, prepare to laugh so hard you vomit.)

Or, like, mebbe somebody could link to the actual video which he be annotatin' and shit? Cuz it's not happenin' with just the text and screengrabs and whatnot.
Fo shizzle.

Or something.

(Let it be known that I have a late middle-aged appreciation for the ICP, having worked a number of their shows.)

I just heard this great joke. It's HILARIOUS! Unfortunately I don't, um, actually remember the joke, but sit down and let me tell you all the many ways reasons that I think it was funny. I promise you'll be laughing too!

Floydd: the problem is, the video has either been locked behind a password wall or has been removed from YouTube altogether, and there are no mirrors which I can quickly locate.

Thanks, unSane. That's a great deal more literate of a criticism than "not the best of the Web", which ... well, let me just link to jessamyn and cortex to complete that thought. (I'm being serious here, hats off on the simile!)

As for the merit of the post itself, I wasn't able to see the video, either, yet I found the strip to be rather hysterical, and I think it reproduces enough context in sufficient detail to be funny in and of itself. It's also delightfully snarky. Thus the FPP.

If it's one of those spots where my tastes happen to differ with whomever's actively commenting on the site tonight, then, well, so be it – wouldn't be the first time, and it's bound to happen every once in a while.

"Hamlet without the Prince" is by no means an original coinage, I'm sad to say. When I worked in documentary films it was standard usage for any really good story where you couldn't get the protagonist on camera.

Clearly, if you think Dustinland's a poor man's version of something, I'd love linkage, as I'm always in the mood for smart humor. Unless this is the Maddox to whom you refer, which, if so, honestly, I don't see them as being similar at all in comic tone or in release frequency.

Isn't there a long and surprisingly-interesting open thread about this?

You are a very good person, Dr. Honeydew, and the video is even more cracktastic than the strip would've suggested – and I didn't think that possible. Now, if I could only send this link back in time about an hour ... do you have anything in your Muppet Laboratory that'll do that? Ah, well ... enjoy, folks. :)

uncleozzy: "Isn't there a long and surprisingly-interesting open thread about this?"

*sigh* Damn it. And since it wasn't the strip, the dupe detector wouldn't have picked it up ... well, enjoy the strip if y'all still like.

FPP FAIL!

did i do that right? i really hate the 'fail' meme, but it apparently is here to stay, so i best get literate with it
